Log book Introductory Notes

The logbook is a record of important activities that should be covered by the student during the clerkship in Child Health. It is the evidence that the student has worked consistently and diligently under supervision during the rotation and has acquired a minimum of skills that make him/her eligible for the final examinations and certification in Child Health. The logbook will be evaluated periodically and at the end of the course. This evaluation will form a major part of the Continuous Assessment of the student during the course, and will contribute toward the overall score for the final Mb ChB Part 1B examination in Child Health.

Notes on using log book-1

The emphasis of the logbook entries is supervised teaching and gradual learning on a weekly basis leading to mastery. Students must sign in on entering a team/rotation and sign out on leaving the team/rotation.

Entries should be made only after discussions with the Supervising Lecturer or Authorised Clinician.
It is the duty of the student to ensure that all entries made in this book are endorsed immediately after the teaching session by the Supervising Lecturer or Authorised Clinician. Retrospective entries are NOT entertained. Endorsements by House Officers are NOT permissible.

Notes on using log book-2

Activities of every week should be appropriately recorded and endorsed. Activities work of one week cannot be used to compensate for losses in previous weeks. Students will be expected to do AT LEAST TWO night duties and ONE weekend duty per rotation. (to get acquainted with what happens at night) As a self-monitoring tool, it is expected that the logbook will enable the Medical Student make a personal assessment of his/her own attendance of teaching sessions, progress in the acquisition of skills and knowledge on a regular basis during clerkship.
