Sir Arthur Conan Doyle

Sir Arthur Conan Doyle was born on 22nd May, 1859 in Edinburgh. He studied to become a doctor, and he graduated, but he had a secret passion for detective stories.

In 1890, he began to write The Sherlock Holmes novels. Then, his books became famous, but in 1906, When his wife died, he went mad. He died in 1930.

A Few Works
A Study in Scarlet in 1887 The Adventure of the Three Students The Yellow Face in 1893 The Hound of the Baskervilles The Sign of the Four in 1890

Inspiration
Before writing his famous detective stories, Doyle served as a clerk at the Edinburgh Royal Infirmary to Dr. Joseph Bell. Dr. Bell served as personal surgeon to Queen Victoria, and he is the brilliant doctor who inspired the creation by Doyle of the brilliant detective, Sherlock Holmes. When Doyle attended medical school, he was astonished by Bells spectacular gifts of observation, analysis, and inference in identifying the cause of a patients illness in making a diagnosis. To illustrate his ability, Dr. Bell would often choose a stranger and, by observing him, deduce his occupation and recent activities. Dr. Bell was a pioneer in forensic science in a time when science was not often used in the investigations of crimes.

Interesting Points about Sherlock

Believes that emotions obstruct the ability to reason logically, which is a skill that he needs to solve cases. Solves cases to relieve boredom Alone is what I have, alone protects me. Sherlock is not a sociopath. Sherlock is an obvious show-off; he greatly enjoys it when people praise his intellect He believes in a caricature of himself: a heartless, cold, logical, deduction machine, instead of a human being. Speaks very rapidly and very precisely, failing to notice or care whether others can understand him His eye contact is odd; he either retains eye contact too long and abruptly looks away, or he refuses to look at the person he is speaking to. Believes that he is separate from the rest of the society.

The Eight Mental Functions-in-Attitude

DR. JOHN WATSON

Personality Type : ISFJ --Introverted Sensing Feeling Judging (Introverted Sensing with Extraverted Feeling) Dominate Function: Introverted Sensing Auxiliary Function: Extroverted Feeling Tertiary Function: Introverted Thinking Inferior Function: Extroverted Intuition

INTROVERTED SENSING
When John Watson believes something, there is no doubt in his mind (extremely self-assured)

EXTRAVERTED FEELING
Hes dedicated most of his life so far to serving society as both a doctor and a soldier, and currently his life is dedicated to his friend Sherlock Holmes Video

INTROVERTED THINKING
organizing the past experiences of his dominant introverted-sensing in a logical way helps John in being even more self-assured than he otherwise is. He also seems to want rational explanations to anything he does not understand.

EXTRAVERTED INTUITION

not satisfied with the ordinary, mundane civilian life need for something that will also result in new experiences and exposure to new information that can be sorted

John Watson is mostly mentally stable, although he does have his fair share of negative and positive traits One of the most interesting is his desire to put himself in stressful or risky situations in order to gain the pleasure of excitement.

POSITIVE TRAITS:
Strong ability to empathize with others Strong ability to uphold commitments Well-developed sense of loyalty and desire to protect loved ones Heightened sense of morality/justice Selfless Strong ability to keep calm in the face of danger

NEGATIVE TRAITS:

Tendency to bottle up anger until it is released in outbursts Dislike of receiving pity or sympathy, Tendency to exhibit reckless and/or dangerous behavior under the guise of bravery or justice Suspicion/mistrust of the intentions of others

I think the best line from any Sherlock Holmes movie came from Jude Law portraying Watson, "I never complain! How am I complaining? When do I ever complain about you practicing the violin at three in the morning, or your mess, your general lack of hygiene, or the fact that you steal my clothes? When have I ever complained about you setting fire to my rooms? Or, or, the fact that you experiment on my dog?"

Disorder(s): Somatic symptom disorder and related disorders (later disappeared), possible form of post-traumatic stress disorder(PTSD) DSM-5 criterias
Somatic symptom disorder (SSD) is characterized by somatic symptoms that are either very distressing or result in significant disruption of functioning, as well as excessive and disproportionate thoughts, feelings and behaviors regarding those symptoms. To be diagnosed with SSD, the individual must be persistently symptomatic (typically at least for 6 months). The diagnostic criteria for the manuals next edition identify the trigger to PTSD as exposure to actual or threatened death, serious injury or sexual violation. The exposure must result from one or more of the following scenarios, in which the individual: directly experiences the traumatic event; witnesses the traumatic event in person; learns that the traumatic event occurred to a close family member or close friend (with the actual or threatened death being either violent or accidental); or experiences first-hand repeated or extreme exposure to aversive details of the traumatic event (not through media, pictures, television or movies unless work-related). The disturbance, regardless of its trigger, causes clinically significant distress or impairment in the individuals social interactions, capacity to work or other important areas of functioning. It is not the physiological result of another medical condition, medication, drugs or alcohol.

Compare and Contrast

Out of 5 of Sherlocks friends, Watson is one of them . They both have selfless bonding at any extent, but these both are two different characters. Holmes is the detective and Watson is his sidekick. This makes Sherlock look superior. As the detective, Holmes has two very important characteristics, he is observant and deductive. On the other hand ,Watson is not so observant and deductive. He is very slow and misses clues, which Sherlock quickly gathers.

In some of the phrases , without Watson, Holmes would not seem as good a detective and would not be able to explain his methods to the readers. Watson does not seem as intelligent as Holmes in the stories, but we can see in reality he is as smart as Holmes. In the stories Sherlock Holmes it is explained that he is much stronger character than Dr.Watson. This is because Holmes is the center of attention, as he is the detective. If Watson was not present there would be no Sherlock Holmes stories.

After all, Watson was an army doctor in Afghanistan got to be pretty active to be an army doctor and intelligent. Of the two, We would say that Watson, perhaps, had the better judgment, being that Holmes took cocaine, and Watson tried to stop him. Watson did not have the powers of observation and deduction that Holmes did, but it got better. 'Experts' say that as time went on, Holmes became more like Watson and Watson became more like Holmes.
