CLASSIFICATION OF WORKMEN

Permanent
- Engaged on work of permanent nature likely to last for more than 9 months
- Have completed probationary period successfully
- Includes a badli who has been employed for a continuous period of 3 months
during
any time of 12 consecutive months
Probationer
- Previously employed to fill a permanent vacancy and has not
completed 3
months service therein.
- A permanent worker may also be employed for a higher post as a probationar
Badli
- Appointed in the post of a permanent workman or probationer who is
temporarily
absent



CLASSIFICATION OF WORKMEN
Temporary
- Appointed for a work of essentially temporary nature and which is to be
finished
within a period not exceeding 9 months
Apprentice
- According to Apprenticeship Ordinance 1962, an apprentice is a
person
undergoing training through the system of apprenticeship
-Apprenticeship means a system of training in which an employer undertakes to
employ a person and to train him or have him trained systematically in an
apprenticeable trade for a period the duration of which has been fixed in
advance and
in the course of which the apprentice is bound to work in the employers service
Contract Worker
- Works on contract basis for a specific period of remuneration to be calculated
on
piece rate bais


Tickets (S.O.2)
- Workman shall be given a permanent ticket and a departmental ticket, showing
workmans type and his number
Terms and Conditions (S.O.2-A)
- Every workman at the time of his appointment, transfer or promotion shall be
given an order in writing showing the terms and conditions of his services.
Working Time (S.O.3)
- The period and hours of work shall be displayed in Urdu and principal language of
work man on the notice board near main entrance and in the office of timekeeper
Holidays and Paydays (S.O.4)
- The days observed as holidays and paydays shall be displayed on the notice
board
Wage Rates (S.O.5)
- The rates of wages payable to all classes of workmen and for all classes of work
shall be
displayed on the notice board

Shift Working (S.O.6)
- The employer can order to start the work in more than one shift in a department or
any
section of a department

- The workmen can be transferred from one shift to another

- The shift working can be discontinued only after giving one months prior notice

- The permanent workmen can be discharged keeping in view their length of
service. The
workmen with shorter term of service shall be discharged first

- If the shift working is restarted, the discharged workmen shall be reemployed

- Preference shall be given to those who have the longer term of service
