Hypertension in CKD
Data from population-based studies indicate that 95% of individuals
with an eGFR,30 ml/min per 1.73 m2 have hypertension
limited ability of the diseased kidneys to handle sodium excretion, in
activation of a variety of vasoconstrictive and sodium retentive
mechanisms.
In contrast with patients with advanced CKD & patients with
structural kidney disease and preserved kidney function may develop
hypertension due to novel mechanisms that have recently been
described

Timeline of Grand Rounds
Nephrology Grand Rounds will be presented by all nephrology fellows
before the end of their first year of fellowship.
The fellow presentations typically occur over the months of April,
May, and June and are scheduled so as to allow the fellow presenting
to have a non-hospital rotation the month prior to presentation.
Fellows will be notified of the month of their Nephrology Grand
Rounds Presentation by the 3
rd
month of fellowship, which means
that each fellow will have at least 6 months of prior notification in
order to adequately prepare their talks.
Timeline (contd)

Each fellow will identify an individual mentor among the faculty for their
grand rounds talk at least 3 months prior to their scheduled presentation
notify Dr. Desai and myself of mentor selection.
This faculty member may be selected from Nephrology, Pathology,
Transplant Surgery or from another department with prior approval from
the Fellowship Director (Dr. Desai) and myself.
This may be the mentor you have selected for your research topic or can be
someone different.
It will be the fellows responsibility to identify a mentor and set up meeting times to
accomplish the goals of the Grand Rounds so please plan ahead of time and give
your mentor plenty of notice.
If you have difficulty contacting your mentor or are otherwise struggling to obtain
feedback from them please notify Dr. Desai or myself and we can assist in facilitating
this process or in helping you to select another mentor.


Timeline (contd)
Fellows will submit finalized topic and teaching goals to myself and
Pam Darden at least 3 weeks prior to scheduled presentation and a
copy of the finalized slides at least 1 week prior to presentation.
Slides will be reviewed to ensure that they meet the guidelines
included.
