fundamental moral teaching.
provided whats now widely recognized as a
powerful response to the crisis into which Catholic
moral theology fell after Vatican II.
affirms that human reason can identify what the
encyclical calls certain fundamental goods that
transcend the particularities of the here-and-now.
What is it?
Veritatis Spleandor (1993)
It is a reflection on the gospel as the gift and
commandment of new life,
a reflection on the life which professes the
truth in love (cf Eph 4:15)
and on the Churchs life of holiness, in which
there shines forth truth about the good
brought to its perfection.
Moral Theology touches
our sharing in the divine life as complete gift from
the blessed Trinity,
creation and the reasoning creature's place in
creation,

Christian existence is a movement
between polarities of principle and
process
of being and becoming
of essence and existence
of universal and particular
of conviction and risk
of substance and form
but not mutually opposed they
requires and includes the other.

There are
laws that are
not moral
(lawful but
not moral)
but they are
legal.
There are
things that
are not
promulgated
as laws but
are moral.
Not everything that is legal is ethical or
moral.
It doesnt follow that if it can be done it
should be done.
No court, no legislative body, no person
can sanction what God has condemned.
Right is right no matter how few believe it,
and wrong is wrong no matter how many
practice it.

Joshua 1:6-9
be strong and stand firm and be careful to
keep all the Law which my servant Moses laid
on you.
Never swerve from this to right or left, and
then you will be happy in all you do.
Have the book of the Law always on your lips;
meditate on it day and night so that you may
keep everything that is written in it.
Then you will prosper in your dealings, then
you will have success.
Prayer
Lord,
Give me a pure heart,
That I may see you;
Give me a humble heart,
That I may hear you;
Give me a heart of love,
That I may serve you;
Give me a heart of faith,
That I may abide in you.
