INTRODUCTION

Definition of corporate social responsibility (CSR);


Is the concept that an enterprise is accountable for its
impact on all relevant stakeholders. It is the continuing
commitment by business to behave fairly and responsibly
and contribute to economic development while improving
the quality of life of the work force and their families as well
as of the local community and society at large.
(Commission of the European Communities, 2003)
The responsibility of decision-makers, to take actions that
will not only meet their own interests, but also to the
protection and enhancement of public wealth . (Davis and
R. Blomstrm)

Petroliam Nasional Berhad is Malaysias National Petroleum


Corporation wholly-owned by the Malaysian Government.

Established in 1974, PETRONAS is now ranked among the


largest companies in the world with a proven track record in
integrated oil and gas operations spanning the entire
hydrocarbon value chain.

PETRONAS business activities;


the exploration, development and production of crude oil and
natural gas in Malaysia and overseas;
the liquefaction, sale and transportation of Liquefied Natural
Gas (LNG);
the processing and transmission of natural gas, and the sale
of natural gas products;
the refining and marketing of petroleum products;
the manufacturing and selling of petrochemical products;
the trading of crude oil, petroleum gas and LNG products and
petrochemical products
shipping and logistics relating to LNG, crude oil and
petroleum products.

PETRONAS Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR)


programmes embody the promise of better days and better
lives ahead.
Support to various community development and outreach
programmes aimed at empowering individuals and
communities with the relevant knowledge, skills and resources
to cope in todays increasingly challenging world.
Carried out in partnership with local communities, government
and non-governmental organisations, they are a manifestation
of PETRONAS philosophy of being inclusive, sharing its
success with the communities it serves and contributing to the
well-being of the nation.

PROGRAM SENTUHAN ILMU PETRONAS


(PSIP)

Introduced in 2002 in partnership with schools nationwide (as 2013, 45


schools involved) with involvement teacher and 700 Petronas staff volunteers.

PSIP aims
To provide a strong academic foundation for under-privileged and
borderline students in communities where PETRONAS operates.
To improve the primary school student confidence and self-esteem,
setting them on a course to excel both academically and socially.
To supports the Governments goal to improve the standard of English,
Mathematics and Science subject.

Impact to stakeholders;
Student: Around 38% of 513 border-line students who sat for the
examinations scored 2As and above out of five subjects. 93% of students
passed the three core subjects English, Mathematics and Science.
Teacher: With over 70% of those who attended the PSIP Teachers
Workshop able to improve their coaching and teaching delivery.

PROGRAM KENALI ANAK KITA


PETRONAS (KAKP)

In 2009, the Kenali Anak Kita PETRONAS (KAKP) programme


(previously known as Kenali Anak Kita) was launched in a
collaborative effort with PENGASIH, a non-Governmental
organisation affiliatedwith the World Federation of Therapeutic
Communities.

KAKP aims;
To equip parents with the necessary knowledge and skills to
prevent drugs, alcohol and other substance abuse among their
children.

What are the programme being organized?


Series of seminars and workshops on social ills awareness.

Impact to stakeholders;
the average hours participants spent with their children in a day
increased from 2.45 hours in 2011 to 5.0 hours in 2013 after
attending the workshops.

PROGRAM SAHABAT PENDIDIKAN PENCEGAHAN


DADAH PETRONAS (SAHABAT PPDA)

PPDA was launched in 2008, in complementing the KAKP is the


Sahabat PPDa, with collaboration with the Ministry of Education.

Sahabat PPDA aims;

Raising awareness of substance abuse among students and teachers

To enlist schools to play a more exertive role in drug abuse


prevention efforts.

What are the programme being organized?


Courses and workshops.

Impact to stakeholders;
Based on evaluation report produced by Universiti Malaysia
Perlis in 2013, about 86% of students and teachers who had
attended the programme gave it top marks in promoting greater
knowledge of drug abuse and its prevention.

PROGRAM SENTUHAN HARAPAN


PETRONAS

The programme was launched in 2010 in a collaborative effort with


MyKasih Foundation.

Aims;
To improve the living standards of underprivileged families and
break away from the cycle of poverty
To have better financial management and determine ways to
augment their family income.

What are the programme being organized?


Training in entrepreneurial skills for 500 families to acquire.
Training in sewing for 200 families
Basic training in financial literacy

Impact to stakeholders
Increase in household incomes after three and six months of
mentoring and training about 71% (entrepreneurial skills) and
92% (sewing).

PROGRAM SENTUHAN KASIH PETRONAS

Aim
To celebrate these festive occasions with those living at the
fringes of society, bringing festive cheer to the poor and underprivileged, orphans, single mothers, senior citizens and children
with special needs.

Total spend?
Almost half a million Ringgit for 2,653 families.

IMBAK CANYON CONSERVATION AREA

In June 2011, PETRONAS joined forces with Yayasan Sabah to preserve the
Imbak Canyon Conservation Area (ICCA).

Aims;
To help conserve the unique biodiversity in Imbak Canyon
Promoting public awareness, environmental education and community
outreach.
Empower the younger generation with the relevant knowledge to
conserve a national heritage for the benefit of future generations.

What are the programme being organized?


Programmes related to ethnoforestry study and documentation,
formulation of the Imbak Canyon Management Plan as well as the Imbak
Canyon Studies Centre are being implemented concurrently.
Several training courses were conducted during the year to help the staff
of Yayasan Sabah as well as members of the local community better
understand the importance of biodiversity conservation.

RM6 million over a three-year period

FIRST AIDER IN EVERY HOME


PROGRAMME (FAIEH)

First Aider in Every Home Programme FAiEH is a programme


upholds the highest standards of safety in every aspect of its
operations to ensure business sustainability with collaboration of
Malaysian Red Crescent.

FAiEH aims;
To produce a qualified first aider in every household.
To equip communities around its key project areas with the
essential knowledge and skills to provide first aid care for minor
injuries.

What are the programme being organized?


Training for the basic care and treatment of wounds, fractures,
poisoning and burns, as well as cardiopulmonary resuscitation
(CPR). About

PRESERVATION OF MALAYSIAN
TRADITIONAL MUSIC, ARTS AND CULTURE

Aim

To preservation and promote the countrys indigenous arts and culture are
important in fostering the nations identity.

Total spend?
RM900,000 to the Geng Wak Long, Dayak Cultural Foundation, Sekolah
Seni Malaysia Kuching, Sekolah Seni Malaysia Johor, Persatuan Seni
Budaya Sabah, Persatuan Dondang Sayang Negeri Melaka, Lan E
Tuyang and Persatuan Penggerak Warisan Seri Budaya Kedah.

Impact to stakeholder;
Sekolah Seni Malaysia Johor - winner for the World Champion Title at the
World Championship of Folklore Competition, beating 197 groups from 85
countries.
Sekolah Seni Malaysia Kuching was awarded the First Gold Diploma at
the International Folk Dance and Song Festival at Batumi, Georgia,
Lan E Tuyang won rave reviews at the famed Rainforest World Music
Festival.

PETRONAS INTERNATIONAL CSR


PROGRAMMES

Mauritania : Create a more conducive learning environment (repairs


and painting works and to purchase school supplies) at a school in
the local district of Tarhil, Secteur 18.

Republic of South Sudan: Aawarding scholarships to deserving


South Sudanese students to study at the Universiti Teknologi
PETRONAS (UTP) in Malaysia (65 South Sudanese beneficiaries)
and opportunities for 110 South Sudanese trainees to enter INSTEP,
Petronas technical learning institution, to be trained as Production
Operators & Technicians in various disciplines.

Indonesia: Sponsoring 10 computer packages to benefit seven


schools in the district of Sampang in East Java, contributing food aid
and other forms of assistance to victims in Jakarta (during the natural
disaster struck)
