Glocal School of Natural & Applied

Sciences

Introduction
The Glocal School of Natural Science makes its debut this year.
The natural sciences, namely, mathematics, physics, chemistry and

biology, have long been regarded as the breeding ground for new
technologies and are usually seen as many years ahead of
technological deployment.
This is because natural science is the forerunner of applied science.
In applied sciences, we plan to offer the courses including forensic
science, nano-science and technology and industrial chemistry, as
our starting point for the vast area of applied sciences.
We make a beginning in 2014 with mathematics, physics and
chemistry. The aim of this school is to provide the facilities and
environment of scientific thinking, curiosity and investigation which
will nurture and develop scientific thought and discovery.
Glocal realizes that the sciences are no longer independent
disciplines but are interdependent and intertwined with one another.

In this school we employ and wish to attract men and women who not

only have a curious bent of mind, keen observation and above all a
desire to discover knowledge, but also those who are open, inventive
and who will not waiver in the face of experimental failure.
We see our school as the breeding ground of the future J.C. Boses
and C.V. Ramans and Chandrasekhars. We thus demand a high
degree of commitment right from the beginning.
As with all other undergraduate courses at Glocal, the first year is a
common foundation course and will enable the student to get a firm
hold on fundamentals.
It will also expose the student to material from our other schools like
law, technology, media, etc., and will enable him to make a change in
his choice of degree or major if he so desires.
The UG courses are all 4-year Honours courses and are being offered
in mathematics, physics and chemistry in the Monsoon semester of
2014.

The facilities we offer are one of the

best featuring laser technologies,

spectroscopy including UV-VIS, FTIR,
etc., gas chromatography,
crystallographic studies as well as our
own planetarium (to start in 2014) for
astronomy.
The labs are new and we encourage

self-designed instruments giving the

scientist an unusual insight into his
chosen work. This is much in line with
our role models, namely Sir J.C. Bose
and Nikola Tesla.
The school is closely connected to the

schools of technology and computer

sciences and Glocal un expects the
findings of the sciences to find
expression in technology through this
close interaction.

UG Courses
Objective of the Course
Studying science at Glocal would create a well-rounded individual who

has the ability to analyze and question the things around them, and has
the potential and drive to improve the quality of life through research.
Our focus is to develop scientific thinking, which means a reasoned and

analytic approach and the courage to experiment and accept

experimental findings and develop an integrity which goes with scientific
findings and research.

Careers in Natural & Applied

Sciences
One of the best reasons for studying science is the wide variety of

career opportunities that the graduate has access to.

A science degree is a well-established platform to a surprisingly wide
range of careers outside science (for example, management) as well
as within science (research, teaching, industry).
