About the department:
Established in the year 2006, the Department of Information Technology (IT)
is one of the 3 departments under Triguna Sen School of Technology
(TSSOT). The department continues to bloom under the strict observation
of its dedicated faculty & staff members, who have ensured high quality
teaching & learning process right from the inception of the department, and
the collaborative efforts of its efficient students.
Starting with the meager strength of 25 students, today the department is
one of the most sought after departments in the entire University. Students
of the department have always taken keen interest in participating in
various workshops & seminars. In the process, many laurels have been
won for the department. The department primarily draws its students having
multilingual and multicultural background not only from the North East
Region, or other parts of India but also from outside of India.

Faculty Empowerment
Strategies
In-House Research Programme was introduced in 2011 to enable faculties to acquire
higher degrees.
Faculties are encouraged to attend industrial training to closely monitor and acquire
knowledge of latest developments in the field of IT.
Through TEQIP, faculties are given opportunities for presenting papers in
conferences(National/International), journals, seminars(National/International),
workshop etc.
Also the schemes from other statutory bodies of central government like UGC, MHRD,
AICTE etc are also implemented from time to time as per notification by Govt. of India
for e.g. Orientation & Refresher Courses.
The department has organized a number of workshops, seminars, hands-on training in
various technical fields in collaboration with Institutes of repute in the recent past and
is in constant pursuit of such opportunities to continue the same in future.
Environment
Consciousness
The used Batteries of the UPS are sent
to the concerned manufacturers/
distributors through the Estate section
of the University for disposal.
The computer accessories are also sent
to the concerned manufacturer/
distributor so that they can dispose off
them in environment friendly manner .
Items

2.
In Saturdays, the classes for beyond the syllabus, Group discussion etc. are held with
the help of the senior students of the department.
3.
Students are encouraged to write papers for conferences, seminars and their
Travelling allowance and registration fees are provided from the TEQIP fund.
4.
M.Tech students may visit other institutes of repute for Project work.
5.
Industrial training is compulsory for all the students of 6th semester of B.Tech., so
that they can be aware of the latest technologies and innovations of the particular
industry.
6.
Workshops are conducted by the T&P cell of the School to strengthen the soft skill,
communication skill and the personal interview skill of the students to produce
qualified employable graduate engineers from TSSOT with the help of TEQIP.

Active training and placement cell
Wi-Fi enabled Campus: TSSOT zone through Wi-mesh
structure
Good computing facility for faculty, staff and students
swoc (Cont)
Internal Environment: Weakness
Poor Teacher-Student ratio
Industry-Institute interaction is weak
NBA Accreditation is needed: As per TEQIP-II mandate
Communication and presentation skill development of students
Difficulty to get quality faculty at senior level and their retention
Lab facilities need improvement
Journal facilities need improvement
Residential programme: More hostels and quarters are needed
DEAN office: Autonomous and self sufficient organised TSSOT
office is needed
swoc (Cont)
External Environment: Opportunities
Huge opportunity for developing Industry Institute partnership
Huge opportunity for developing Research and research
infrastructure
Huge opportunity for lab development of supporting departments
Huge opportunity for developing networking with eminent national
and international Institutes and Industries
Huge opportunity for generation of internal revenue
Huge opportunity for faculty and staff quality up gradation and
training
Huge opportunity for accessing IEEE/Science Direct/Springer and
other high quality research journals from the department itself
Huge opportunity for Accreditation (NBA) of the programmes and
Autonomous Institute status of TSSOT
swoc (Cont)
External Environment: Challenges
Unless NBA accreditation of the programmes are achieved,
academic growth and institutional standing will be severely
effected.
Unless attractive motivational and encouragement schemes are
introduced, it will be difficult to retain key faculties and staff.
