Wind and solar energy

Inconsistent plant output

Objective:
To improve the consistency of plant operation
To achieve an rural self sufficient power system

Solution:
Solarised vertical axis wind turbine
Hydrogen storage plant

The vertical type Giro mill wind turbine

embedded with photo voltaic wafer

Power from solar radiation and wind

energy.

The power output of wind turbine is given by

P = 0.5*D*V3*(Swept area) Watts.
Known data: Type: Giromill turbine
Average air density in India, D= 1.814 kg/m3
Average speed of wind energy in India, V=8 m/s
From the above formula we obtain
swept area = 30.8 m2 for the output power of 14.29kw
Net power output obtained, Q = 10 kw
using the formula, Swept area = 2*Pi*r*h
we can find radius and height from the swept area.

CHOICE OF ALTERNATOR

PHOTO VOLTAIC BLADES

Array of luminous dye coated special glass with silicon

strips on the edges

The silicon strip on the edges of these square panels

absorb the light and convert them into power.

PHOTO VOLTAIC DESIGN

Wiring diagram

Our proposal of this solar

panel of 1 sq.m can generate
about 120W.

Total area of single blade is

4.26 sq.m

So total power produced at

static condition= 3*4.26*120
= 1.53KW (maximum).

Slip ring is used for tapping

generated power from solar
panel.

Unutilized power is used to generate hydrogen from

using electrolysis
energy (electricity) + 2 H2O -> O2 + 2 H2

Hydrogen is stored in the form of hydrides

(metal-hydrogen compound)

Hydrogen is retrieved by adding water

LiH + H2O
LiOH + H2

Energy liberated from Hydrogen - 286 kJ/mol

Liquid
hydrogen
50.4MJ/kg

Metal hydrides 15 MJ/kg

VAWTs are omni-directional

VAWTs are less affected by turbulent air

Low start up wind speed

Birds friendly

No tracking system required

Diffused sunlight

Less silicon usage

Less maintenance

Eco-friendly backup storage

Hydrogen fuel cell system 45% > Steam power

plant 36%

Portable fuel support

Effective areas for Installing this design
