Expert System
An intelligent computer programmed that uses
knowledge and reasoning procedures to solve
difficult problems that need certain expertise to
solve the problems.
An Expert System is a computer program normally
composed of a

Asthma
Asthma is a common chronic disease that affects
millions of people around the world. Asthma
cant be measured accurately since it consist of
various types of uncertainty such as vagueness,
imprecision, randomness, ignorance and
incompleteness. Consequently, traditional
disease diagnosis, which is performed by a
physician, cannot deliver accurate results.

The first well-known medical rule based expert system
developed by Shortliffe used to diagnosis bacterial
infections.
The rule based expert system, known as PERFEX used
to support to solve clinicians problems.

Limitations
However, these rule-based experts
cannot handle uncertainties as
mentioned below
uncertainties such as vagueness,
imprecision, incompleteness,
ambiguity, ignorance are observed
during the measurement of signs,
and symptoms of a patient.

Fuzzy Rule Base ES for prediction

of possibility of fatal Asthma
Rules and modular representation of variables is
used. e.g.(infection, allergens, instability,
degree of nocturnal etc.)
These ES based on their purposes of application
in hospitals can be classified in 3 categories.
Prediction and Diagnosing
Control (enhance information and awareness
of control for users)
Knowledge base is rule based.
Fuzzy technique is used to represent uncertain values

Methodology
Methodology includes the process of:
Knowledge Acquisition
Knowledge Representation
User Interface
Production Rules
Presenting Uncertainty

Fuzzy Intervals and Membership

Function for nocturnal symptom

Advantages:
Modularity
Fuzzy technique enhances the
validity and good performance of
fuzzy ES
Provide primary care
Limitations:
Need more data to get better
performance
Just a prototype and need to
implement as web based or offline
