When a generic equivalent drug


product is available, drug product
selection by the pharmacist shall
be made in accordance with this
regulation.

If a generic equivalent drug


product is available, a
pharmacist may select and
dispense a generic equivalent
drug product when the
following conditions are
present:

The patient requests the selection of a


Generic equivalent drug product;
a. If with prescription

The prescription may contain an OTC, Rx or


Dangerous drugs. The pharmacist is duty bound to
dispense the drug as written on the prescription.
If the patient requests for a generic equivalent
other than the one written on the prescription, the
Generic Menu card should be presented to the
patient with corresponding brand names and
prices.

b. If without prescription
The patient is dependent on the
knowledge and skills of the pharmacist on
drug-product selection. The pharmacist
should conduct a patient-interview/inquiry
and create a profile of the patient.
He/she is in the best position to guide
the patient on the proper drug-product
selection.

The Pharmacist should always


observe and should be keen
in giving the right medication
with the RIGHT DOSE AND
DOSAGE FORM at the RIGHT
TIME to the RIGHT PATIENT.

2. The prescriber has not


prohibited drug-product
selection.
3. Drug-product selection will
result in a lower cost to the
purchaser.

The Prescriber indicates that the name of

the drug product shall appear on the label of


the dispensed medication container.
The Pharmacist having made product
selection shall place on the label of the
finished dispensed container on the
following:
1. proprietary name of the generic
product dispensed
2. generic name of the product dispensed
and the name of the manufacturer or
repackager, either written in full or
