Components

The rotor is a device that rotates inside the

stator core it is made up of :
rotor laminations these creates the iron
core.
copper bars with supporting copper end
rings.
The bars are shorted together at each end by
a rotor end ring. Depending on the motor,
the end ring is either braided or brazed to the
rotor bars.

Components

The motor thrust bearing is installed at

the top of the rotor string. It is designed to
hold the weight of the entire rotor
assembly.

1.Motor Electrical Concept

The stator takes electrical energy (KVA) from the surface and
converts this to magnetic energy in the stator laminations.
The magnetic poles of the rotor will be attracted to (and repelled
by) the magnetic poles in the stator.
This electrical energy in the rotor induces a secondary magnetic field
in the rotor laminations.
The magnetic field of the stator induces current (electrical energy)
flow in the rotor.
As the stator magnetic field moves, the rotor will move to try to
follow it.

3. Material Options

Steel 4130
Contains 0.30% Carbon, and 1% Chromium
Usually used in middle series

Motor Series
375
456
540
562
738

High Strength Steel 4130

Also contains 0.30% Carbon, and 1% Chromium but heat-treated
to increase the strength , and small series.
Usually used in big series

Material choice for motor housing is determined by:

Corrosives in well fluid (CO2, H2S)

Abrasives in well fluid (sand, quartz)

Erosion tendencies of well

Sound familiar? Its the same criteria as the pump housing.

3. Material Options

Our Material options are also the same, including:

Carbon Steel (standard)

Redalloy 9% Cr 1% Moly (corrosive environments)
High Chromium Metallurgies- 13% Cr and 25% Cr (extreme CO
Coating Available Quality, cost effective solution

& H2S)

Because the well conditions at the motor will be the same as at

the pump, with some additional flow along the outside, the
motor housing material should be the same or better than the
pump.

O4.Oil Selection
Functions of Oil:
Lubricant
Cooling
Dielectric
REMEMBER!!
Motor and Protector must use same oil
Oil selection determined by
Motor winding temperature
Ambient temperature during
installation
