CAUSES of DEATH: 2001-03 in

INDIA
Background
• Medical Certification of Causes of Death (MCCD) was
introduced in the country.
• At present, deaths occurring in urban medical

• The gap was bridged to an extent by the ‘Survey of
Causes of Death’ undertaken in sample villages of
selected Primary Health Centres (PHC) in rural areas.
• This is the Second Report on Causes of Death in the
country, following the Maternal Mortality Report which
was released in October 2006.
Market Research Process

• Choose the research design
• Determine the information needed
• Design data collection form
• Determine sample plan and sample size
• Organize and conduct research
• Analysis and interpretation of data
• Prepare report

Management Problem Research Problem
Identify and Define Research Problem
• India Ranks 116 among 198 countries with a
life expectancy of 69.9 years.

• This is definitely below the global average.

• Digging deep into the problem is required to

figure out the cause of early deaths in India,
also called as Latent difficulties.
Determination Of Information Needs
• Medical certification of causes of deaths
(MCCD) is already in place but works only in
urban medical institutions
• The need here is to have a primary research
done
• Secondary research can not suffice
• Ground work needed to be done at urban and
rural level
