by Google.

Going

to build broadband networks with speeds 100x better than

we have today.

Going

to spend up to 500 million dollars to do it.

Going

to charge market rates for the monthly broadband access.

Start-up Village is Kansas City, a leading tech incubator in

US

History

In 2011, Google launched a trial in a residential community of

Palo Alto, California.

On March 30 of the same year, Kansas City, Kansas was selected

as the first city to receive Google Fiber.

In 2013, Austin, TX and Provo, UT were announced as expansion

cities for Google Fiber

FIBER

How does Google Fiber work?

Google Fiber is powered by a hub-and-spoke cable system. A fiber ring

surrounds the city where the network is located. From that ring, fibers branch
comes inward and connect to fiber huts, where each strand passes through
the devices that receive and transmit signals between your computer and the
Internet. From there, fibers connect to telecom cabinets, which divide fibers
into small bundles that travel outward to clusters of homes. At that point,
cables pass through neighbourhoods via telephone poles or underground
and, ultimately, a single strand connects to an individual home for Internet
and television connections.

Compared to the crude copper material through which most broadband

signals run, fiber optic cables have minimal interference as signals travel
from transmitter to receiver. Light signals travel around the fiber ring and
split down the branches of fiber lines until reaching your house.

THE CONNECTIVITY PROCESS

GOOGLE FIBER V/S TODAYS INTERNET

Google Fiber

Google Fiber starts with a

connection that is up to 100 times
faster than today's average
broadband speeds.

Internet

Average or less than average

broadband speeds are provided in
todays connections.

Downloading speed is slow.

Instant downloads.

Cloud storage not available.

A terabyte of cloud storage.

Less powerful Wi-Fi.

Fast and powerful Wi-Fi

HD TV facility not available.

Crystal clear high definition TV.

No expanded Possibilities.

Endless Possibilities.

Super fast connectivity

An Internet connection speed of one gigabit per second for

both download and upload.

No longer would one have to wait on things buffering;

everything will be ready to go when one is.

Whether one is video chatting, uploading family videos, or

playing his favorite online games, all one needs to do is
click and hes there.

Network
Box

Crystal clear HD

A bigger pipe means less compression.

Google's ultra fast Fiber network has more than enough

bandwidth to provide HD in all its glory with nothing left
behind.

TV Box

The Nexus 7: Your new remote

Search for favorite shows and discover what shows to watch, all
at the fingertips.

Download the Fiber TV app on other compatible Android or iOS

devices to use them as remotes, too.

Records up to eight programs

simultaneously.
Storage Box

With an unprecedented two

terabytes of storage, there is
no worry about having enough
space to record the favorite
shows.

cities as candidates for future expansion.

According to Google, the company will have "updates on which

cities will get Fiber by the end of the year."

Now in India
Now, it is India's turn to get this speed. Kerala-based Startup Village, the
Indias first telecom incubator, now has a newly-laid 1 Gbps (gigabits per
second) connectivity. You can download a two-hour high definition movie
in 30 seconds or view a video in YouTube at this lightning speed!
Startup Village of Kochi has beocme the second place in the world, after
Kansas City of United States, to experience this ultra-fast connectivity,
that is all set to revolutionise the internet experience of the netizens in
the coming days.
The facility was formally introduced on 17 November 2014by the state
Chief Minister Shri Oommen Chandy, giving a shot in the arm to Startup
Village for its mission to churn out world-class startups from Indian
campuses
