1. INTRODUCTION.

Study of personality in Dual Diagnosis (DD):

- Conducted mainly through psychobiological models.
- Temperament and Character Inventory (TCI) most frequently
used.

Up to now: no published studies comparing DD, Mental Disorder

(MD) and Substance Use Disorder (SUD) using the ZuckermanKuhlman Personality Questionnaire (ZKPQ).

Our aim: To explore if there are any personality differences

between DD,

2. MATERIALS AND METHOD.

Sample 97 male patients from Barcelona Althaia Foundation, Valle Hebrn
Hospital; Projecte
Home Catalunya;
ATRA
Group.
Materials:
The Structured Clinical Interview for DSM-IV
Axis I Disorders (SCID-I; First et al., 1999 ).
Positive and Negative Syndrome Scale
(PANSS; Kay et al., 1987).
Zuckerman-Kuhlman Personality
Questionnaire
(ZKPQ; Zuckerman, 1993).

3. RESULTS: ZKPQ dimensions.

Significant differences between groups in ZKPQ:

Neuroticism-Anxiety DD > MD = SUD
Intolerance to social isolation DD < SUD
Sociability DD = MD < SUD
= MD
Impulsivity-Sensation Seeking DD =
Impulsivity DD > MD = SUD

4. CONCLUSIONS. ZKPQ dimensions in

DD Patients:

Personality characteristics in DD related to:

Disruptive behaviors May explain clinical aspects ?

Understanding personality as a dimensional construct may offer

tools to
adequate patients treatment more specifically.

Limitations of the study:

Only male patients.

Cross-sectional design no casual relationships.
Policonsumption.
Severity of addiction not assessed.
Self-reported data.
