provides benefits to Andean Countries,
especially Colombia, Ecuador and Peru by
reducing tariffs in the US to Latin American
exporters. This is in order to reduce
Violence by Drug Wars and Poverty within
the country.

For Colombia this aid helped more than 300

products, such as flowers, jewelry, petrol,
etc. The most influencing was the petrol
and flowers as it is seen in this graph.

This exports made colombia increase its total

revenue from expoerts. In the recent years:

Nowadays, in 2014, the APTA was

renewed in 2013 by president Barack
Obama, without Ecuador.
Consequently brings an increase in
Colombian revenue from its exports
since there is less competence.
600 more jobs in Sectors of Flowers.

Positive Aspects:
This Agreement can lead to a decrease of poverty
since more revenue is coming Colombia as
products can be exported without any barriers
(Tariffs).
Makes the government have more revenue and
therefore increase its spending on Education and
Sanitary for eradicate poverty of Colombia.
Negative Aspects:
As it is a trade agreement this makes dependence
on the tariff free access as its is important for
Colombian exporters to gain revenue.

Other trade aid is the SGP plus which is a

comercial agreement between Colombia
and the European Union, which stalishes the
tariff free access for agricultural products.
This agreement is from 2005-2015 in order
to eradicate poverty in Colombia.

Needs

Colombia needs are:

Poverty and Social Development

Security and Peace

Violence and Insecurity in

Colombia

Violence in Colombia is a national

problem as it is considered one of the
factors of poverty in Colombia. The rural
areas are affected by the Guerrillas for
example Las Farc and ELN leading to
the displacement of people, thus making
them extremely poor.

This forced displacement has been

increasing by years as it is seen in the
graph.

Colombian Military Aid

One way to reduce the internal conflict is

the Plan Colombia aid, which is an
agreement between U.S and Colombia
in order to fight against Drug Traffic and
Guerrillas in Colombia, which
consequently affects poverty.

In 2014 the current fiscal American

budget is $320 million, which $140
million will be attribute to counternarcotics, $28.5 million will be attributed
to the Colombian army and the other
$140 million left are for Institutional
Strengthening and Humanitarian Aid.

Positive Aspects:
This agreement could lead to a decrease in
poverty as people are beneficiated with
housing and military support in order to reduce
the amount of IDPs in the country.
Negative Aspects:
This agreement can be seen as an opportunity
cost, since the money used in order to solve
the problem could be used for other
investment for example, Infrastructure.

Poverty in Colombia

Poverty is a big issue in Colombia. It is

considered one of the highest poverty and
inequality rates in Latin America.
Nevertheless within the recent years poverty
has decreased significantly.

This decrease in poverty has been due to the

intervention of the ODA (Official Development
Assistance), this organization was made for
economic cooperation in order to make
countries developed and progress

In the case of Colombia the main point for the

ODA aid is for eradicate poverty.

Colombia as one of the countries with highest

rate of poverty in LA, it receives the second
highest ODA aid after Haiti, it has increased
from US$269 million in 2000 to 2011
