DEFINITIONS

Profession is a type of job that requires special education, training,

or skill
Profession is the act of declaring or saying something openly.
(MerriamWebster)

A profession isnt just what you do, its who you are
We say that somebody is a doctor.
Here, doctor is a noun
(Doctoring the books is something different!)
Likewise, we dont just engineer (verb)
We also are engineers (noun).
(originally content belong to Oregon State University U.S. also copied in slides of
Dr. Saqib Iqbal CIIT ATTOCK)

A PROFESSION IS WHO YOU ARE, NOT A

CONTRACT.

Shame on the professionals who regards their professional function as a

business transaction to be judged by the question: Just what do I get out of
it?
What professions have a reputation for being self-centered and selfish?
According to me morally every profession have a reputation for being selfcentered but now-a-days mostly in our country people falsely feel reputation for
being selfish

LIFE AS A PROFESSIONAL
You perform professional activity of a type carrying high individual
responsibility, requiring application of special skills to activities that are
predominantly intellectual and varied rather than routine and normal.
Motivation for service takes first place over consideration of reward.
Motivation implies joy and pride in the work to be done, and selfimposed standards.
You have a social duty, fulfilled through guarding the ideals and
standards of the profession, by advancing it , by sharing advances ,
by rendering gratuitous public service, all as a return to society.

PROFESSIONALISM
The competence or skill expected of a professional.
Professionalism takes more than knowledge.
Professionalism is a way of thinking and living rather than an
accumulation of learning.

MORALS
Relating to, dealing with,
or capable of making the
distinction between right
or wrong conduct.
principles
standards
beliefs with respect to
right or wrong behavior

Right or Wrong
RIGHT

In accordance with fact,

reason, justice, law, and
morality.

Wrong

Contrary to fact or reason,

unlawful, crooked, twisted,
immoral, improper.

ALWAYS REMEMBER!

Keep
personal
issues
separated
from the
workplace!

UNPROFESSIONALISM
As described in the previous slide professionalism is a very vast term, it includes moral
values ethics and also decision making according to me it also implies the mental maturity
of certain person in the field that how does he manages conflicts and manages rumours
spread about him, and how he tackle the intense situation e.g. if he had listened that his
juniors had complained about him to his senior, instead of blaming some of his juniors by
self-created mind stories/listening their name from some trouble mongers and keeping
cruel attitude towards them he must have firstly fully investigated the issue then after
collecting the proves then take some action rather than making innocents people life
ruined by threatening them without any reason , there may be not a single complain
against them and they would be creating self drama, In this case the real professional
would just ignore such type of things and being just concentrate about their professional
responsibilities and do their work with full devotion , this type of things just divert the
attentions and make workplace full of conflicts. So kindly avoid this.

PROFESSIONALISM TEACHES NOT TO IGNORE REAL TROUBLE MONGERS
