To eliminate effect
of antithrombotic
surgery,
treatment should be stopped before surgery (~5
days for warfarin, 7-10 days for antiplatelet drug) to
minimizing bleeding risk

Future Directions
Observational studies are planned to
assess best perioperative practices in
patients receiving new oral
anticoagulants (dabigatran,
rivaroxaban, apixaban) or new
antiplatelet drugs (prasugrel,
ticagrelor).
Additional research is needed to inform
best perioperative practices in patients
with coronary stents and in special
populations (obese, renal insufficiency).
