The greenhouse effect is a natural process that warms

the Earths surface. When the Suns energy reaches the
Earths atmosphere, some of it is reflected back to
space and the rest is absorbed and re-radiated by
greenhouse gases.

Let us observe the picture and

identify process of Green House
Effect

Picture of Green House Effect

Look at fig1 in which different factors are involved in the production
of a commodity. Production requires space people money building
etc from the figure identify the various factors involved in the
production process
Fig.5

Green House gases are

water vapour, carbon dioxide, methane,
nitrous oxide, and ozone.

DEFINING THE TERM Green House Effect

D4

contribution to the greenhouse effect

on Earth the four major gases are:
water vapour, 3670%
carbon dioxide, 926%
methane, 49%
ozone, 37%

The exchange of incoming and

outgoing radiation that warms
the Earth is often referred to as
the greenhouse effect

Are green house gases harmful to
earth?

Yes

A greenhouse gas (sometimes abbreviated GHG) is

a gas in an atmosphere that absorbs and emits radiation
within the thermal infrared range. This process is the
fundamental cause of the greenhouse effect1

Clearly read the story and think for a while

Hi friends, Can you see me? I dont have a form. I am not alone I have
got my friends along with me. We are all similar. We are hot . We
used to absorb heat & emit radiation. Thus we used to burn the earths
atmosphere. We are increasing day by day through the activities of
humans. We are not harmful to humans but at times the rate of our
group increase in earth surface it will affect the livelihood of people &
ecosystems.
Here
is my

ENLARGING THE
DEFINITION

Earth's temperature
D5 depends on the balance
betweenenergy entering &
energy leaving the planets
system.
When incoming energy from the sun is absorbed by
the Earth system, Earth warms. When the suns energy
is reflected back into space, Earth avoids warming.
When absorbed energy is released back into space,
Earth cools. Many factors, both natural and human,
can cause changes in Earths energy balance.

Brain Teaser 2.2

Is It possible to limit activities of humans that cause
spreading of green house gases?

Yes

Most climate scientists agree the main

cause of the current global warming trend
is human expansion of the "greenhouse
effect warming that results when the
atmosphere traps heat radiating from Earth
toward space.

DEFINITION

D6

Human
activities
are
changing
the
natural
greenhouse. Over the last
century the burning of fossil
fuels like coal and oil has
increased the concentration
of
atmospheric
carbon
dioxide (CO2).

CONCEPT
FORMATION

An atmospheric heating phenomenon, caused by shortwave solar radiation being readily transmitted inward through
the earth's atmosphere but longer-wavelength heat radiation
less readily transmitted outward, owing to its absorption by
atmospheric carbon dioxide, water vapour, methane, and other
gases; thus, the rising level of carbon dioxide is viewed with
concern.

Read to the news

THE ECONOMIC TIMES
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM:
India is the third biggest greenhouse gas emitter with
its contribution standing at 5.3 per cent behind
countries like China and the USA, the Government said
in LokSabha on Wednesday."As per current information
available, the countries which are the largest
contributor, in percentage term regarding greenhouse
gas emissions are China 19.5 per cent, USA 19.2 per
cent, India 5.3 per cent, Russia 5.1 per cent, Japan 3.6
per cent and Germany 2.6 per cent," Environment
Minister Jayanthi Natarajan said.

From the above

news it is clear that
Green House gases
