Robots are easy to use and dont require much

thinking.
Robots can go under extreme conditions.
Robots can accomplish missions without having
the risk of humans being hurt.

The military is rushing robots to Afghanistan in an

effort to protect troops on foot patrol .

The equipment includes small robots that can be

tossed over walls and through windows into homes,
allowing troops to look for bombs in areas they
cannot see. The robots transmit images to troops
waiting at a safe distance.

The military, for example, is also dispatching a

smaller version of a large armored vehicle that is
used to clear roads of hidden mines and bombs. The
small versions include the same technology, such as
metal detectors and ground-penetrating radar, but
can be used on narrow trails.

The military has also purchased an amphibious robot

that can navigate irrigation canals, which are

The Predator UAV has become one of our

military's most famous unmanned vehicles.
These UAVs are about 30 feet long and have a
wingspan of about 50 feet. They were first
designed for reconnaissance purposes.
Now can be outfitted with a wide variety of
weaponry. Most recently they have had the
laser guided AGM-114 Hellfire anti-air missiles
attached.

This robot can go over many terrains, it is a

fully functional robot that will go into mass
production and cost between 150,000180,000 dollars.

Longest battery life of all portable robots

Fastest robot on the market
Very strong and rugged
Easy to operate
Can climb stairs and can go over any terrain
Has four different cameras- thermal, color, black
and white, and night vision. Has a very good
zoom capability.

30 lbs. and man portable

Compact
Achieves all terrain even stairs
Speed of 6 mph
Can carry objects up to 15 lbs.
Range of 3 of a mile

This little robot is designed for recon purposes

A soldier could throw this into enemy territory and
look around through the video camera on the front
Very durable; can be thrown
A hefty 32 pounds, researchers are trying to make
one that is lighter
There are 3 different throwable robots

MAARS is the first fully modular ground robot system capable of providing
force escalation options for a measured response that fits any combat
situation. MAARS is an agile, combat-ready robot that is remotely controlled
by the operator, who can interact with hostile forces from a safe distance
using the robots two-way communication features and multiple cameras.
It provides multiple options for response and escalation of force:
Non-lethal -- Operators voice projected through loudspeakers on the robot,
and an eye-safe laser to dazzle people
Less-lethal Launcher to deploy bean bags, smoke, star clusters and
pepper spray
Lethal -- Launcher to deploy 40mm high-explosive grenades, or the
powerful M240B medium machine gun firing 7.62mm ammunition
Multiple cameras give the operator a clear view of the robot and its
surroundings to ensure optimum safety and improve situational awareness.
In the MAARS weapons-configured system, the operator always sees where
the weapon is pointed in relation to himself and other friendly forces.
The robots turret system is able to support a drop-in manipulator arm,
multiple types of weapons and a wide range of sensor packages.
