Grade Usual criteria: Entry level for new graduates (or non graduates with at least 5 years
relevant work experience).
Candidates should display competency/skills in technical and managerial areas
outlined below

Receiving on the job technical training through performing tasks normally under
supervision
Developing broad technical competence
Drafts technical reports of acceptable technical and presentational quality with
some rework acceptable
Few technical decisions taken outside of defined procedures
May check work of technicians / administrative staf
Able to present / represent their specific technical work (presentations / meetings).
Familiar with work procedures
Responsible for completion of specifically assigned tasks to time and cost
Able to discuss with clients the business area (Department) to which they are
currently assigned
Developing understanding of local business (Divisional) technologies and markets

Grade Usual Criteria: Entry level for PhD graduates with 2 years (grade 9) or 3+ years
(grade10) relevant work experience, or non-graduates with at least 8 years relevant
work experience. Grade 10 should have completed relevant professional training
Candidates should display competency/experience/skill in technical and managerial
areas outlined below.

Continues to receive on-the-job technical training but with limited supervision
Developing increased technical competence; Competent to check the work of other

Developing increased design ability and quality
Drafts technical reports of acceptable technical and presentational quality with
minimal rework required
Technical decisions limited to solutions rather than end results
Able to check work of graduate engineers/part 1 architects, technicians /
administrative staf
Able to present / represent their technical work
Able to draft responses to straight forward bids assistance sought with commercial
aspects
Efective team member
Good knowledge of work procedures
Developing knowledge of the commercial aspects of project management
An efective and reliable team member able to apply knowledge gained
Responsible for completion of specifically assigned tasks to time and cost
Able to assign work to graduate engineers/architects, technicians / administrative

Grade Candidates should hold appropriate qualifications from this grade onwards e.g qualified
engineer and have the requisite experience. They may also be determining whether to
follow a technical or managerial (project or people) career path

Responsible for completion of projects to time, cost and quality
Developing relationships with Atkins colleagues outside of business area
Increasing knowledge of, and use of Atkins, capabilities outside of business units
Flexible and enthusiastic and able to make sound judgements
Building relationships with limited set of common clients
Good understanding of Operating Unit technologies and markets

A Grade 12 should be demonstrating competence and/or potential in the areas below


whereas a grade 13 wil be more competent through experience and ability in these

Team leader supervising other junior professionals/team. Understanding of
People Management issues and can conduct staf development and appraisals
Fully conversant with the commercial aspects of project management and PSRs
Responsible for completion of projects to time and cost
Good knowledge of, and use of, Atkins capabilities outside of business units
Good leadership qualities and gains respect from colleagues
Knowledge of programming software such as MS Project
