Role of
Science
Maintenance Health

Health Sciences are

the group of
disciplines of applied
science dealing with
human and animal
health.

There are two parts to Health Sciences

O the study and research knowledge of

health and the application of that

knowledge to improve health, prevent
and cure diseases, and understand how
humans and animals function
O the application of that knowledge to
improve health and to prevent and cure
diseases and other physical and mental
impairments.

The science builds on many subfields, including :

O biology
O biochemistry
O physics
O Epidemiology
O pharmacology
O medical sociology

Applied health sciences

endeavour to better understand
and improve human health
through applications in areas such
as:
O health education
O biomedical
O Engineering
O biotechnology
O public health

There are organized interventions to

improve health based on the principles
and procedures developed through the
health sciences that are provided by
practitioners trained in the ff:
O Medicine
O Nursing
O Nutrition
O Pharmacy
O social work
O Psychology
O occupational therapy
O physical therapy
O And other health care professions

O Clinical practitioners focus mainly on

the health of individuals, while public

health practitioners consider the
overall health of communities and
populations.
O Workplace wellness programs are
increasingly adopted by companies
for their value in improving the
health and well-being of their
employees, as are school health
services in order to improve the
health and well-being of children.

ROLE OF
PUBLIC
HEALTH

What is Public
Health?

Public health is the science of

protecting and improving the
health of families and
communities through
promotion of healthy lifestyles,
research for disease and injury
prevention and detection and
control of infectious diseases.
- CDC foundation

PUBLIC HEALTH CONNECTS US

ALL
It is concerned
with protecting the health of
entire populations. These populations can be as
small as a local neighborhood, or as big as an
entire country or region of the world.
Public health professionals try to prevent
problems from happening or recurring through
implementing educational programs,
recommending policies, administering services
and conducting research in contrast to clinical
professionals like doctors and nurses, who focus
primarily on treating individuals after they
become sick or injured. Public health also works
to limit health disparities. A large part of public
health is promoting healthcare equity, quality
and accessibility.
