Our film is about two friends, the main character Elizabeth is manipulated by her best friend Caitlyn who convinces her to kill a younger boy. If our film were to continue past where we left it, it would show the eventual murder of Elizabeth by Caitlyn. However we as a group felt we did not want to do a conventional thriller so we challenged this by focusing on defying the common stereotypes of young girls.

m Our film is about two friends, the main character
Elizabeth is manipulated by her best friend Caitlyn.
m Caitlyn convinces Elizabeth to kill a younger boy which all of which is explained in the opening. However afterwards Elizabeth tries to protect herself from Caitlyn using voodoo hence the fire circle. m If our film were to continue past where we left it, it would show the eventual murder of Elizabeth by Caitlyn who does not trust her to keep their secret. m Our media product fits the thriller genre, we used fast paced editing to reflect how scared Elizabeth was. However we as a group felt we did not want to do a conventional thriller so we challenged this by focusing on defying the common stereotypes of young girls to give our film a unique edge. m We used Levi-Strauss binary oppositions on the effects of the clip the childhood scenes were on the ͞heat wave͟ effect to give it an over bright effect. The teenage years where they murdered the boy are set in darker effects to reflect the dark years and decisions they made. m Our film represent͛s the vulnerability in children who are open to manipulation. However as a teenager Elizabeth becomes rebellious to Caitlyn's control. m To fit the angry teen stereotype, Elizabeth wears all black with smudged make up. m When dressed as younger children both wear pink skirts or tights to show their youths but the over bright setting makes the audience uneasy. m To guide the audience through their age we represent them through stereotypes but alter them to give them a abnormal twist, in the teen years both wear normal clothing however the speeding up of them through the tunnel makes them appear abnormal. m Our film represents does not aim to represent a group as both the friends are misfits meaning they do not fit into any of the stereotypes placed upon teenagers today and rarely conform to their norms. m We would hope an institution like Lions Gate would publish our film as it is the most commercially successful independent film and television distribution company in North America. m Lions Gate recently co-distributed by the independently produced and funded Kick Ass, which was rejected from many institutions because of the character ͞Hit Girl͟ who defied all the normal expectations of a seven year old and was considered a major risk. m According to the BBFC guidelines, our media product would be classified as a 15 due to the context of child abuse and murder. m This would make our film available to older teens and adults and is not as limiting as an 18 certificate. m Other films also rated a 15 are ͞One Missed Call͟, ͞Babel͟ and ͞Shutter Island͟. m Our film is not gender specific and can be viewed by either gender. m Our film is targeted at teenagers as the two friends do not age further than the age of 17/18. However it can appeal to older audiences as it shows the characters in childhood young teens old teens/young adults. This makes our product not specific to teenagers. m The flashbacks to their younger years show common signifiers of childhood, the park, toys and swings making the characters relatable to the audience so the audience can understand Elizabeth's obsession. m Before beginning constructing this product I had no experience with garage band imovie or mac͛s. I therefore developed my knowledge of all three significantly. However I think I learnt most about the use of imovie as I learnt how to add music, credits, transitions, add effects and slow or sped up a shot. rLooking back to our preliminary, the only rule of directing and filming we used was the 180 degree rule. It was limited by the types of camera movement and angles we used (wide and over the shoulder) and the one key lighting. rOur preliminary misses some vital aspects of continuity e.g. the person behind Georgia as she enters the room and Georgia sitting down. Therefore I feel I have learnt how to best film a shot and that a variety of shots is better than simple over the shoulder shots. rOur preliminary task had few special effects and no credits which I think made our film look more professional. It also had very basic editing skills as when Georgia enters the clip jolts where we had to use two different clips, I think looking at our final clip our editing skills have improved drastically.
