PASSIVE VOICE
In passive sentences, the thing receiving the action is
the subject of the sentence and the thing doing the
action is optionally included near the end of the
sentence. You can use the passive form if you think that
the thing receiving the action is more important or
should be emphasized. You can also use the passive
form if you do not know who is doing the action or if you
do not want to mention who is doing the action.

1. Simple Present Tense
The formula :

Active
: S + V1 + O

Passive: S + is/am/are + V3
Example:

A : My mother cooks the meal


everyday.
P : The meal is cooked by my mother
everyday.

A : Once a week, Tom cleans the


house.
P : Once a week, the house is cleaned
by Tom.

A : She buys a lot of vegetables


every week
P : A lot of vegetables are bought
by her

2. Present Continous Tense


The formula :
Active
: S + am/is/are + Ving + O
Passive : S + is/am/are + being + V3
Example:

A : My mother is cooking the meal at the


moment.
P : The meal is being cooked by my mother at
the moment.

A : I am cleaning the house at the moment.


P : The house is being cleaned by me at the
moment.

A : Right now, Sarah is writing the letter.


P : Right now, the letter is being written by
Sarah.

3. Present Perfect Tense
The formula :

Active : S + has//have + V3

Passive : S + have/has + been + V3


Example :

A : Many tourists have visited that


castle.
P : That castle has been visited by many
tourists.

A : The police has cought a thieve


P : A thieve has been cought by the
police.

A : We have written the reports


P : The reports have been written by us.

4. Present Perfect Continous Tense


The formula:

: S + have/has + been + Ving
Passive
: S + has/have + been + being +
V3

Example:
A : Recently, John has been doing the work.
P : Recently, the work has been being done
by John.
A : Tedi has been waiting for joni since an
hour ago

5. Simple Past Tense
The formula :

Active : S + V2 + O

Passive : S + was/were + V3

Example:

A : My mother cooked the meal

A : Sam repaired the car.


P : The car was repaired by Sam.

A : My mother bought a frog

6. Past Continous Tense


The formula :

Active : S + was/were + Ving

: S + was/were + being + V3

Example:

A : The boy was singing the song


P : The song was being sung by the boy

A : I was teaching english

9. Simple Future Tense
The formula :

: S + will + V1

Passive : S + will + be + V3

Example:

A : I will get a schoolarship next


semester.
P : A schoolarship will be gotten by
me next semester.

A : Tom will make a suprise for me


tomorrow
P : A suprise will be made by tom
for me tomorrow.

10. Future Continous Tense


The formula :
Active : S + will + be + Ving
Passive : S + will + be + being + V3
Example:

A : My mother will be cooking the meal this


afternoon.
P : The meal will be being cooked by my mother
this afternoon.

A : I will be leaving this house this morning


P : This house will be being lefted by me this
morning.

A : John will be watching a football match at

P : A football match will be being watched by

KETERANGAN
4. Yang dapat dijadikan pasif hanyalah kalimat aktif
yang predicate-nya berupa : Transitive verb (yakni kata
kerja yang masih memerlukan object). Sedangkan
kalimat aktif dengan intransitive verb (kata kerja yang
tidak memerlukan object) tidak dapat dijadikan pasif.
Transitive verb : buy, bring, give, tell, do, visit, drink, eat, agree, discover,
write, etc.
Intransitive verbs : go, arrive, come, sleep, look, seem, appear, bleed, etc.
Ex.
They sleep soundly.
Tina seems so tired.
you look very handsome
Semua contoh kalimat diatas tidk bisa dijadikan pasif sebab tidak memiliki object
