•INTRODUCTION:-

introduced this approach.
It emphasize the organization to operate rationally rather
than relying on the whim of owners and managers.

uniformly regardless of individual personalities
and personal considerations.

Well defined hierarchy Multiple level of positions ,with carefully


determined reporting relationships among
levels ,provide supervision of lower office by
higher ones.

Career advancement based Selection and promotion is based on the


on merit qualifications and performance of members.

1.SPECIALISATION:-
A bureaucratic organization provides the advantage of
specialization because every member is assigned a specialized
task o perform.

2.STRUCTURE:-
A structure or form is created by specifying the duties and
responsibilities and reporting relationships in a command
hierarchy. Structure sets the pace and framework for the
functioning of the organization.

4.RATIONALITY:-
A measure of objectivity is ensured by prescribing in advance
the criteria for decision making in routine situations.
5.PREDICTABILITY:-
The rules, regulations specialization ,structure and training
impart predictability and thereby ensure stability in
organization.
6.DEMOCRACY:-
Emphasis on qualifications and technical competence make
the organization more democratic.

LIMITATIONS OF BUREAUCRACY

1.RIGIDITY:-
Rules and regulations in a bureaucracy are often rigid and
Inflexible. These encourages status quo and breed
resistance to change.

2.GOAL DISPLACEMENT:-
Rules framed to achieve organizational objectives at each
level become end in themselves. Once the objectives get
so displaced, managers and other members of the
organization find it very difficult to achieve the goals of
the organization.
LIMITATIONS OF BUREAUCRACY

3.IMPERSONALITY:-
A Bureaucratic organization stresses mechanical way of
doing things. Organizational rules and regulations are
given priority over individual needs and emotions.

4.PAPERWORK:-
Bureaucracy involves excessive paperwork as every
decision must be put in writing. All documents have to be
maintained in their draft and original forms.
LIMITATIONS OF BUREAUCRACY

5.EMPIRE BUILDING:-
People in a bureaucracy tend to use their positions and resources
to perpetuate self interests or the interests of their sub-units.

6.RED TAPE:-
Bureaucratic procedures involve inordinate delays and frustration
in the performance of task. The procedures are nevertheless
valued, perpetuated and multiplied for their own sake as also to
pass the buck.
