HYPOTHESIS
Let Motivation be represented by . Generation X be represented by and Millennials be
represented by .
Null Hypothesis: (Motivation of Generation X is greater than or equal to that of
Millennials)
Alternative Hypothesis: (Motivation of Generation X is less than that of Millennials)

OBJECTIVE
The objective of this study is to test the afore-mentioned hypothesis using
different constructs given below
Perceived Ease Of Use
Perceived Usefulness
Attitude To Use
Behavioural Intention To Use

MOTIVATION
Both intrinsic and extrinsic motivation to use new technology affects
the behavior of a person to use new technology. We have used
performance as a proxy for motivation as it is an established fact
that motivation and performance have a strong positive correlation.
Thus, by measuring impact of new technology on perceived
performance, we can measure the impact on motivation.

OPENNESS TO EXPERIENCE
Openness to experience is one of the traits under the Big 5
Traits model that defines the personality of a person. The
questionnaire has specific questions related to this
personality trait, like Loves to use new technology, plan
to use new technology and use it even when not at work.

SELF-ESTEEM AND SELF-WORTH

Self-esteem and self-worth are also important personality
traits that govern the relation between age and motivation
to use new technology. Due to higher self-esteem and selfworth, people find it easier to adjust to changes. It gives
them motivation to use new technology readily

FINDINGS
Environment (here, type of industry) does not have an effect
on the motivation and actual use of technology by employees
The cumulative effect of person and environment is
comparatively lesser than effect on other attributes
The behavioural intention to use is not significantly different
for Gen X and Millennials
Interestingly, the attitude to use technology has most
significant negative correlation with age
This implies that the attitude of Gen X is more
resistance to technology than that of Millennials

CONCLUSIONS & RECOMMENDATIONS

Conclusions
Gen X are negatively affected by technological advances at work
High behavioural intention to use => Gen X see technology as being important
Huge difference between Gen X and millennials in Perceived ease of use and
Attitude
Thus, Gen X prone to feeling demotivated
Recommendations
Encouraging employee participation during technology implementation
More comprehensive training
Team goal setting oriented towards technology adoption
