GENERAL INFORMATION

State the material and process

Support document- PQR report
Relevant application code
Date test etc

JOINT AND DETAILS

Type of joint used
during test
Backing strip
applied or not
Backing or purging
gas

JOINT DETAIL
Sketch of joint for
base material
preparation, some
time not included
Show the detail of
root gap, root face,
baking if any.
T- Thickness of the
plate/pipe

BASE MATERIAL

Show the material that used during test

Or some show by P and group of material
P1 for carbon steel, P8 for stainless steel
The size and thickness of the material

MATERIAL GROUPING

Base metals material have been assigned P-Numbers

or S-Numbers
To reduce the number of welding and brazing
procedure qualifications required.
Ferrous base metals have been assigned Group
Numbers creating subsets of P-Numbers and SNumbers. that are used when WPSs are required to
be qualified by impact testing by other Sections or
Codes.

THICKNESS RANGE
Show the ranges of thickness qualified
-1.5 mm to 11mm qualified for pipe (groove weld)
-Any range of thickness for fillet weld
-Any size of pipe if fillet joint was used
Maximum deposit weld 2t (two times the weld
deposited during test)

THICKNESS RANGE
The thickness qualified maximum normally 2 time
the thickness tested
See QW451 for more detail
Pipe of diameter range qualified based on the size
welded.
2in OD qualified to weld 1OD and above
See QW452.4 for detail

FILLER METAL

SFA No- Group of filler metal in term of

handling, properties and others criteria
AWS No- the class number of electrode/filler
wire
Other particular related to filler metal shown
in this column

POSITION

Position of welding performed during

test
Position shall be the easy position
The uphill and down hill is essential
to be include in the WPS

PREHEAT

Mention the temperature for

preheat
The inter-pass temperature in
between welding
Some time method of heating

POST WELD

The item similar like preheat

The temperature required for post
weld heat treatment
600-700C for 3-4 hour

ELECTRICAL CHARACTERISTIC
It shown current,
voltage
parameters,
Normally in range

input etc,

WELDING TECHNIQUE
Explanation the
number of pass,

cleaning and
others

GAS PARAMETER

Type of gas or gasses

used for shielding and
purging if required by
the process
Gas parameter such as
composition, flow-rate
Gas mixture if two or
more type of gasses
used

parameters used in the
welding
