ACADEMIC PRESSURE

- Too much to Handle

Presented By

What is it??
It is the mental stress that
initiates from schools and
the education system.
Often , it is the pressure
that comes along with
pursuing an educational
qualification.
Academic stress is especially
hard on undergraduate students who
have recently cocooned out from
a not so independent schooling system.

Academic Pressure:
Reasons
These pressures mainly come from:

Parental Expectations.
Students who are forced to study
specific subjects against their own
wishes.
Fear of Failure.
Grades are seen as a benchmark for
prospective successes in life.
Issues with Time Management.

Parental
Some Parents are always
Expectations:
pushing
their children to excel

academically.

Parental pressures to pursue

academic success have both
positive and negative effects on
their children.
From the parents perspective it
is seen as an investment for
their better future.

Forced to study specific subjects

against their own wishes

Parents want their children to work

in a profession in which they have a
good chance in succeeding
economically. They feel that studying
in general subjects wont be as
lucrative as studying engineering,
medicine, business or law.
And they are right to some extent.
However, many youngsters do not
have the same priority as their
parents do. They may be more
interested in a not so lucrative career
but on one that matches their
interests.

Fear of Failure

Students want to get an A

so desperately that they
sacrifice their own
creativity and choose an
easy way out simply to get
better grades.

They come to prefer easier

tasks not because they are
lazy, but because they are
rational
After all, if the goal is to get
an A, their odds are better if
they avoid taking
intellectual risks

Grades are seen as a benchmark

for prospective successes in
life.

Students begin to think of

themselves as nothing more than a
test score, and they lose sight of
the actual purpose:

LEARNING

Issues with Time

Management
External forces also
create academic
pressures. Many students
fail to practice effective
time management and
are good in
procrastinating.

The solution requires

dedication, commitment
and discipline in daily life.
Students should balance
their daily studies with
other extra-curricular
activities to gain a good
balance in life.

Why it is Bad?

Academic Pressure forces

students to perceive negative
thoughts about education
and the purpose of their lives.

Most students who cannot

handle academic pressure try
to escape from it. They vent it
out through negativity and if
unsuccessful take the
extreme step -

Academic Pressure leads

to

Elevated Stress levels

Tendency of Cheating
Unsocial Behaviour
Obsession with
Grades
Health issues etc.

So what to do???

Putting faculty under pressure for not bringing all students at same
level, which is not possible.

blame games.

them cool by behavior but not giving results.

Faculties are not only working in front of students. They have
been given other works too. Institutions giving other
