Introduction in brief

caring humanity

Amid the face of recent research scrutiny, P.

edulis surged to reveal different important
properties with many potential applications
including its strong anti-inflammatory
property [1].

Central to various studies is its alkaloidal

component which is believed to be the cause
of this potent effect [1][2][3][4][5][6].

Research Objective

caring humanity

General Objective:
This study aims to refine and elucidate the
effectiveness of the anti-inflammatory effect
of P. edulis leaves extract against
nonsteroidal anti- inflammatory drugs (NSAIDS)
namely aspirin, naproxen and indomethacin.

Four (4) hours

b.

Eight (8) hours

c.

Twelve (12) hours

d.

2. Determine the percentage reduction of

carrageenan- induced inflammation in the
treatment groups for the whole 24 hours.
3. Determine the significant difference of
carrageenan- induced inflammation in the
treatment groups at different time intervals
between and within groups.
4. Determine the mean frequency of cases and the
degree of severity of the carrageenan- induced
inflammation using Modified Likert Scale.

Conclusions and Recommendations

caring humanity

Based from all the gathered results, the

researchers concluded that P. edulis has antiinflammatory property comparable to aspirin
and naproxen from four to 24 hours postinduction of inflammation as well as in
indomethacin except during the 12th and 16th
hour where P. edulis showed better antiinflammatory effect. This conclusion was
supported by the histopathological findings in
the degree of inflammation from the skin nip
biopsy.
SHORT OVERVIEW PG.19

Conclusions and Recommendations

The researchers would like to recommend:

caring humanity

1) consider addition of the number of treatment

administration with respect to the half-life and
duration of action of the different drugs
2) obtain the active constituent of the extract to
maximize the study of its anti- inflammatory
property
3) compare it to other commonly prescribed
2 inhibitor and corticosteroids.
