Introduction
construction of structures these days, is being
carried on land having weak or soft soil due to land
problems because less amount land is available
and soil replacement is not possible due to high
economical cost.
stability of any structure depends on the
properties of soil. Where weak soil & soft soil is not
possible to replace with sandy soil, the fiber
reinforced

soil

being

used.

Now

days

in

geotechnical engineering the idea of inserting fiber

in soft soil to improve its soil properties has become
very popular.

Foundation is a part of structure which transmits load

of super structure to the sub soil. Geotechnical
engineers face various problems while designing the
foundations on highly compressible clayey soil due to
poor bearing capacity and excessive settlement. Thus
bearing capacity is one of the important aspect of soil
engineering.
Many experimental programme carried out to study
the fiber reinforced soil. To study the behaviour of fiber
reinforced clayey soil various tests are under taken

Abstract
The objective of the project is to study the
behavior of fiber reinforced soil compare with the
unreinforced clayey soil. Various test like shear
strength of soil, CBR value of soil, compressibility of
unreinforced and reinforced soil to be done with
different fiber mixtures to obtain the optimum fiber
content.

Scope

of Work

Tests on unreinforced clayey soil to conform the

properties of soil is weak or not.
After conformation of soil properties, the various
types of tests conducted.
Then mix the fiber in various proportion in soil
and find out its properties.
On the results of properties of reinforced soil, the
optimum fiber content will be obtain.
