Against Aeromonas
hydrophila by In Vitro
BACKGROUND
Sargassum sp. is one of fisheries comodities which is easy to obtained and
cultivated.
Sargassum sp. contains substances or active compounds such as tannins, iodine
and phenol can be used as antimicrobial agents against several types of
pathogenic bacteria (Bachtiar et al., 2012).
One of pathogenic bacteria is Aeromonas hydrophila
PROBLEMS
Is the Sargassum sp extract. can inhibit the growth of Aeromonas
hydrophila bacteria ?
What is the best concentration of Sargassum sp. extract which can
inhibit the growth of Aeromonas hydrophila bacteria at its optimum?
PURPOSES
The aims of this study is to determine the inhibitory and the best
concentration of the Sargassum sp. extract on the growth of
Aeromonas hydrophila bacteria.
LITERATURE
Brown algae (Sargassum sp.) is a group of algae that is generally brown.
Classification of Sargassum sp. according to Atmaja (1996) is as follows:
Kingdom
: Plantae
Division : Phaeophyta
Class
: Phaeophyceae
Order
: Fucales
Family : Sargassaceae
Genus : Sargassum
Species : Sargassum sp.
LITERATURE
According to Hanzen et al., (1987), classification of Aeromonas hydrophila
bacteria are:
Phylum
Class
Ordo
Family
Genus
Spesies
: Protophita
: Schizomycetes
: Pseudomonadaceae
: Aeromonadaceae
: Aeromonas
: Aeromonas hydrophila
These bacteria include facultative anaerobic bacteria, the bacteria are able to live
with or without oxygen, and are found on the gills, skin, liver and kidneys.
