PRE-SCHOOL Education :
-children

from one to three years of

age start their schooling in nursery
school where they spend a few
hours each day playing and doing
some activities.
-children at the age of three
usually go to kindergarten
where they learn social rules,
ethics and the principles of the
alphabet and mathematics.
This attendance is not
compulsory.

Primary Education:
- in Slovakia lasts for nine years and is compulsory. It is
divided into two stages of four and five years. Children start
attending primary school at the age of 6 till 15. School
attendance is compulsory for 10 years from 6 to 16.
-a school year in Slovakia at primary
and secondary schools consists of two
terms.
The first term starts on 2nd
September and ends at the end of
January, the second term starts on
1st February and lasts until 30th June.
-in elementary school pupils must
pass the MONITOR tests from Slovak
language and Mathematics in their
final 9th year. The results are given to
the chosen secondary school instead
of doing the entrance exams.

-students at primary schools in
Slovakia receive marks from 1 to

a school-leaving exam
-after finishing secondary school -3 year school study
students usually take a skill certifikate.
-the school starts at 8:00 a.m. Classes last
for 45 minutes and there are 5-10 min
breaks between them. There is alonger
break called "big break" when students
usually have a snack. Big break lasts 20
-after passing the exam,student receives the School-Leaving
min.
certificate and apply it for study at universities and colleges.
-at the end of study go on Prom

-students have to ge credits and grades A,B,C,D,E- if they pass,

and Fx- if the fail
-lasts from 4-6 years at universities
-slovak universities have winter and summer terms
during the year
-to gain some of academic diploma they must complete
and defend a thesis in their field of research and pass the
state exam

-students can study:

Bachelors Degree- three year study (Bc.)

Masters Degree- four and five year study (Mgr.);Engineer (Ing.)
Medicine- 6 year study (Mudr.)- in the field of human medicine
(MDDr.)-dentist
(MVDr.)-vet
