INTRODUCTION
This time we have broadened our dimension to the study of the behavior of steel b
eams of various cross-sections (box section, rectangular section, I section and circul
ar under 2 point load and to compare it with its theoretical aspects. We have chose
n to apply 2 point load as it will give us no shear zone which implies pure bending a
rea can be observed and studied well.
With the help of this experiment we will plot P- graph (for calculation of stiffnes
s), stress vs strain plot and M- curve (to study linear behavior of strain and to verif
y the assumption that section remains plane before and after bending).
And finally we shall be comparing the experimental and analytical results.

SCOPE OF WORK
To perform tensile test on TMT bar and to analyse and plot stress-strai
n graph for the same.
To check whether cyclic loading (loading - unloading) is possible on T
MT bar or not.
To design a steel beam according to the capacity of load cell available
in laboratory.
To design a steel beam of given cross-section and material properties
and determine its capacity.

Flexural Strength and Rotation Capacity of I-Shap

ed Beams Fabricated from 800-MPa Steel

ABSTRACT:
Flexural tests on full-scale I-shaped beams, built up from high-strength steels (HSB800 and HSA800) with a nominal tensile stren
gth of 800 MPa, were carried out to study the effect of flange slenderness on flexural strength and rotation capacity.
For comparison purposes, specimens with ordinary steel (SM490) were also tested and showed sufficient flexural strength and rota
tion capacity in accordance with the AISC specification.

SUMMARY
Full-scale testing of 16 high-strength steel I HSB8
00 and HAS 800) built-up I-shaped beams was con
ducted to evaluate the flexural strength and rotatio
n capacity. For comparison purposes, five beams o
f ordinary steel I SM490) were also tested. With th
e beam flange width-thickness ratio as the key vari
able in this test program. the objective was to eval
uate if the AISC design provisions arc also applica
ble to 800-MPa steel beams.

The stress-strain characteristics of 800-MPa steel were typical for high-s

trength steel; i.e. no sharp yield point, no yield plateau, a reduced strain
ductility , high YR (> 0.90).

The 800-MPa specimens, designed according to the local flange

buckling criteria of the AISC (2005b) specification, developed s
ufficient strength for elastic design and marginal rotation capacit
y for plastic design.

STAINLESS STEEL TUBULAR BEAMS

AUTHOR:- Kim J.R. Rasmussenl and Gregory J. Hancock
SOURCE: - Eleventh International Specialty Conference on Cold-Formed Steel Structures
St. Louis, Missouri, U.S.A., October 20-21,1992
SUMMARY:The beams were tested in a 2000 kN capacity machine. The test specimens were loaded symm
etrically at two points on the span through a spreader beam which was loaded centrally by the r
am of the testing machine. The loading points were located at the distance L/4 from the support
s, where L=1000 mm was the distance between the supports.
The test set up produced a region of pure moment along the central half of the beam.
In this region, the bending moment (M) was given by,
