Born on 15 June1950 in Sadulpur, Rajasthan
Came from a Middle class background
Faced numerous difficulties in getting admission in English
Medium College after coming from Hindi Medium School
Graduated from St. Xavier's College, Calcutta, with a B.Com
degree and topped the college
At the age of 26, Mittal started his first his first steel factory PT
Ispat Indo in Sidoarjo, East Java, Indonesia

Due to a curb in regulations for steel-making in India, in 1976
Mittal started his company PT Ispat Indo
He had no capital to build steel plant in Indonesia
Taking Advantage of Invest Overseas scheme in India, he
received loan from Bank of India
Started purchasing equipment and materials in India and
exporting them to Indonesia
He started business as wire rod manufacturer

Chose acquisition as Growth Strategy
Mittal started acquiring companies in Canada and Germany but
failed to get his first break
Mittal acquired the his first company Karmet Steel in Temirtau,
Kazakhstan for a knockdown price of $400m
