Introduction

Wind is a clean, renewable energy source.

Wind's ecofriendly power can help to reduce
the environmental damages.
Following are some important properties for
todays energy need:
Ecofriendlyness.
Cost-effectiveness.
Mobility of the power station (Ex. In Rural areas,

Sea, Desert, etc).

Efficiency of the power station .
Low installation cost, running
maintenance .

Awind
turbineis
a
rotating machine which
converts the kinetic
energy of wind into
mechanical energy.
If
the
mechanical
energy
is
then
converted electricity,
the machine is called
awind turbine.

Figure shows the typical constructional details of the

conventional Horizontal Axis Wind Turbine. It has following
different parts.
1)Tower, Rotor and Blades.
2)Gear box and brake.
3)Generators.
4)controller.
5)Other controllers like Yow motor and pitch adjustments.

Requirements of wind power mill

High wind speed of about 5.6m/s to 6.4m/s

for maximum power efficiency.
Cost efficient transportation of windmill
components to the installation sites.
There should Less variations in wind speed
for regulated supply.
Considerably large area for to generate
large energy.

Effects of wind power mill on environment

wind turbines have a negative impact on

birds, which can be killed or injured through
collision with the rotating blades.
Most of the times complaints come from
those people those have to live or to work
in the close neighborhood of circling wind
turbines.
It requires large area, it generally located on
hilly areas for to catch high wind speed and
less constructional cost, so it affects wild life
adversely.

Disadvantages of wind power mill

It requires expertise and advanced

methods for the transportation of
blades and rotors, it may cost about
20% of the total installation cost.
It becomes expensive to replace
damaged parts of wind turbine,
hence maintenance cost is high.
Initial cost is much high.
Because of variations in wind speed,
regulating mechanism has to be
installed along with generator to
prevent damages from excessive
electricity so generated.

Magenn Air Rotor Systems (MARS)

This is the high altitude wind

turbine calledMARS. MARSis a
Wind Power Anywhere solution
with distinct advantages over
existing
Conventional
Wind
Turbines, global deployment,
lower costs, better operational
performance,
and
greater
environmental advantages are
the key features of this system.
Magenn Air Rotors can be raised
to
higher
altitudes,
thus
capitalizing on higher winds
aloft. Altitudes from 750-ft to
1,000-ft above ground level are
possible, without having to build
an expensive tower, or use a
crane to perform maintenance.

How does MARS stay aloft?

MARS is filled with helium gas,
which is inert and non-flammable. The lifting gas creates a
lift force that is in excess of the total weight of the system.
The helium provides at least twice the positive lift versus
the overall weight of the MARS unit. Additional lift is also
created when the rotor is spinning in a wind. The
aerodynamic effect that produces additional lift is called
the Magnus Effect.
What is the Magnus effect
Basically, a back spin causes a low pressure region to form
above the object and high pressure to form below, resulting
in lift. A large object like the Magenn Air Rotor creates
sufficient lift to maintain its height.
The combined lifting effect from Helium lift and Magnus lift
help to stabilize the Air Rotor against "leaning" in the wind.
It is found experimentally that maximum lean will never be
more than 45 degrees from the vertical.

Advantages of MARS over Conventional wind

turbines

It removes all placement limitations.

Coast-line or off-shore locations are not necessary to
capture higher speed winds.
Reaching winds at 1,000-feet above ground level allow
MARS to be installed closer to the grid.
MARS is mobile and can be rapidly deployed, deflated,
and redeployed without the need for towers or heavy
cranes.
MARS is bird and bat friendly with lower noise emissions
and is capable of operating in a wider range of wind
speeds - from 4 mph to greater than 55 mph.
It is low cost and eco-friendly wind power generator
It can be easily installed in rural and remote places of
the country.

Conclusion
1) MARS is the most efficient, cost-effective,
eco-friendly, mobile, low maintenance way
of generate electrical energy out of wind
energy.
2) It would be ideal for the country like India
which having vast verities in geographical
landmarks to implement such power stations
as it could be installed where it could be.
3) It is the best solution for the power-crises
faced by whole world.
