EC STASYS ORIGINS AND

CRE ATION
Ecstasy was originally developed by Merck
pharmaceutical company in 1912.
Used in 1953 by the United States Army
psychological warfare tests under the name
MDMA.
It resurfaced in the 1960s as a psychotherapy
medication to lower inhibition by
pharmacologist Dr. Alexander Shulgin.
Some psychiatrists called ecstasy penicillin
for the soul despite the fact it had not been
clinically tested.
It wasnt until the 1970s that MDMA started
being used as a party drug.
Was sold as Ecstasy before it got banned
where the name came from.
It was legal until 1985 in the United States
where it was banned over health reasons and
other countries, including New Zealand soon
followed and MDMA is illegal in most
countries of the world.

CONT.
Ecstasy, also referred to as MDMA,E-Bomb, Doves, and about 20 other names, is a now
more popular drug that causes feelings of mental stimulation, emotional warmth,
empathy toward others, a general sense of well being, and decreased anxiety. But, these
effects only last for a few hours after taking the drug. Later on, the more undesirable
effects start taking place. MDMA is not a benign drug, because of its stimulant
properties and the environments in which it is often taken, MDMA is associated with
vigorous physical activity for extended periods. This will lead to hyperthermia, though
not as deadly as the state ofhyperpyrexia, it can cause muscle breakdown which will
generate more problems. It also often affects memory and impairs information
processing which emphasizes the potential danger to partaking in complex tasks such
as driving. The ecstasy today is more hardcore, if that can be said, it is often mixed
with or consists of LSD, cocaine, heroin, amphetamine and methamphetamine, rat
poison, caffeine, dog deworming substances, etc. It generally comes in pill form but
can also be injected and taken in other ways. Liquid Ecstasy is actually GHB, a nervous
system depressanta substance that can also be found in drain cleaner, floor stripper
and degreasing solvents. Overall, its a drug that you dont want to and shouldnt be
taking.

TYPES OF ECSTASY
Pure ecstasy, or pure MDMA, is a white
powder that is very hard to find. Therefore,
ecstasy is usually taken orally in pill, tablet, or
capsule form.
However, street ecstasy is often pressed into
pills that are usually stamped and colored with
various logos and cartoon-like images,
including Rolls Royce, Mitsubishi, etc.
Besides pure MDMA, the Love Drug can be
also be found in powder form. It has a yellow
color and bitter taste.
The powder form is often snorted, but it can
also be placed into gelatin capsules and
essentially swallowed.
Ecstasy pills are usually mixed with other
drugs and active substance, such as caffeine,
amphetamines (speed), PMA, DXM, etc. Mixing
ecstasy with alcohol is very dangerous and can
be lethal.
There have been rumors that ecstasy pills
contain a cocktail of cocaine, LSD, or heroin.
However, they are false due to none of these
ever being found in extensive, thorough lab

WHO MISUSES ECSTASY

AND WHY

As ecstasy can be found relatively cheap

in the US, ranging from $1 to $70 per
pill, increased use has been evident
throughout the years.

Because of its relatively cheap price, the

vast majority of ecstasy users are
teenagers and young adults.

Among adolescent users in the US,

recent research and studies have
indicated that girls were more likely to
uses ecstasy than boys.

According to the UN office on Drugs and

Crime, approximately 9 million people
around the world use ecstasy

Ecstasy is one of the most popular drugs

among youth today, although it is illegal
and classified as a Schedule I drug by the
Drug Enforcement Administration.

Many people misuse ecstasy as a way

to experience feelings of stimulation,
well-being, and the distortions in time
and sensory perceptions that it
produces.
Ecstasy is mainly used at raves, as
the simulative effect of the drug
allows the user to dance for long
periods of time.
The sense of euphoria, inner peace,
enhanced sensation, mild
hallucination, and increased empathy
are reasons why people abuse ecstasy.
The carton-like images illustrated on
the pills may give some leverage in
concern to an individuals values and
allow them to easily use and buy
ecstasy.

Ecstasy, which is classified as a hallucinogen and synthetic stimulant, creates
euphoric effects and has been glorified by many British pop drug anthems yet
denounced by several anti-drug foundations and organizations.
With many American pop culture songs as well portraying ecstasy, which is
commonly known as molly in its crystalline or powder form, in a positive manner,
the number of youth and teens of todays generation using this deadly drug has been
on the rise.
For instance, in Jay-Zs album Magna Carta Holy Grail, he states I dont pop Molly,
I rock Tom Ford. in one of his songs. By delivering this message to the general
public, Jay-Z is proposing that one either wears designer brands or pops molly.
Jay-Z isnt the only rapper who has oversimplified the negative effects of ecstasy and
the drug overall. Rick Ross also caused controversy when he rapped on the remix of
Rockos U.O.E.N.O., as one of the lyrics suggested that Molly was the ultimate
gateway for the male and female satisfaction.
Lastly, Madonna has been called out for asking Has anyone seen Molly? to a crowd
while she was on stage. Due to being criticized for encouraging the drugs use, she
simply stated that the song was about a girl named Molly. Evidently, Madonna did so
to protect her reputation along with halt further criticism.
