What is a bernoulli trial?

A bernoulli trial is one where the result is either a success or a failure.

A bernoulli trial is characterized by the following:

Binary outcomes ( either a success / failure )
Outcomes are independent of previous trials
Probability of success is same on every trials

Which of the following is not a bernoulli trial?

(a)tossing a coin with tails
(b)winning a game of basketball

Team A is facing team B in a series of 7 games. The probability of winning a game is 0.4
for team A, and 0.6 for team B: :
1. What distribution would be used to calculate the probability that team A wins 4 out of the
7 games? (Binomial distribution).
2. What distribution would be used to calculate the probability that team B reach their 2nd
win on the 3rd game? (Negative Binomial distribution).
3. What distribution would be used to calculate the probability that team A reach their 1st
win on the 2nd game? (Geometric distribution).

What is a binomial distribution?

Let x be the discrete random variable whose value is the number of
successes in n trials.

A binomial distribution is characterized by the following:

The experiment consists of n independent trials, each with two
mutually exclusive outcomes (success and failure)
For each trial the probability of success is p (and so the
probability of failure is 1 p)
Each such trial is derived from a Bernoulli trial

You flip a coin 2 times and count the number of times the
coin lands on heads. This is a binomial experiment
because:
(a) The experiment consists of non-repeated trials

(b)The experiment consists of repeated trials

You flip a coin 2 times and count the number of times the
coin lands on heads. This is a binomial experiment
because:
(a) Each trial can result in just two possible outcomes

(b)Each trial can result in many possible outcomes

You flip a coin 2 times and count the number of times the
coin lands on heads. This is a binomial experiment
because:
(a) The probability of success is constant

(b) The probability of success is not constant

You flip a coin 2 times and count the number of times the
coin lands on heads. This is a binomial experiment
because:
(a) The trials are not independent

(b)The trials are independent

If X is the number of independent Bernoulli trials until

the first success, the distribution of X is binomial.

(a) True

(b) False

If you are playing your friend in a game of Rock-Paper-Scissors where the probability of you winning is 0.4:
1. What distribution would be used to calculate the probability that you win 8 out of 14 games played?
(Binomial distribution).
2. What distribution would be used to calculate the probability that you reach your 4th win on the 7th game
played? (Negative Binomial distribution).
3. What distribution would be used to calculate the probability that you reach your 1st win on the 3rd game
played? (Geometric distribution).

Two cards are selected at random from ten cards that

contains 2 includes, 4 As, and 4 Kings. Lets say X is
the number of jokers and Y is the number of As
selected.

(a) Find pairs of values (x,y):

Two cards are selected at random from ten cards that

contains 2 includes, 4 As, and 4 Kings. Lets say X is
the number of jokers and Y is the number of As
selected.

(b) Is this considered as a permutation or

combination?

Two cards are selected at random from ten cards that

contains 2 includes, 4 As, and 4 Kings. Lets say X is
the number of jokers and Y is the number of As
selected.

(c) Find the number of ways of selecting 1 joker from

2 jokers and 1 A from 4 As.

Two cards are selected at random from ten cards that

contains 2 includes, 4 As, and 4 Kings. Lets say X is
the number of jokers and Y is the number of As
selected.

(d) Construct joint probability distribution table

Two cards are selected at random from ten cards that

contains 2 includes, 4 As, and 4 Kings. Lets say X is
the number of jokers and Y is the number of As
selected.

(e) If the game rule is that the number of jokers

counts for a reward, what is the probability of it?

Say, P{A type blood} = 0.35.

(a) what is the probability that the first person to walk in Red Cross Blood Donation Center with blood type A is the
first customer in the center?

Say, P{A type blood} = 0.35.

(b) what is the probability that the first person to walk in Red Cross Blood Donation Center with blood type A is the
second customer in the center?

Say, P{A type blood} = 0.35.

(c) what is the probability that the first person to walk in Red Cross Blood Donation Center with blood type A is the
third customer in the center?

Say, P{A type blood} = 0.35.

fourth customer in the center?
