III. PHILIPPINE CLEAN WATER ACT OF
2004

USES OF WATER

Daily consumption such as drinking clean

water, bathing, cooking, cleaning

Water sports like swimming, snorkeling,
boating, surfing and deep diving
Farmers used it in watering their crops
Industries used it in manufacturing their
products
Used in renewable power generation and the
hydroelectricity it produced is low cost, nonpolluting and renewable source of energy

Fishing as their source of livelihood

From these natural resources comes the food

they eat
Philippine Coastal Tourism

Climate change
is an aftermath
of our misuse of
water and its
natural
resources

Increase in daily temperatures in both

atmospheric and sea surfaces that bring

about public health and economic challenge
Rise of sea level that causes inundation of
coastal areas
Change in the frequency and intensity of
typhoons like what we experienced after the
devastating Ondoy and Pepeng that leads to
loss of lives, properties and livelihood of many
Filipinos

Prolonged and more frequent droughts that

lay agricultural areas and forests wasted

Changes in the supply and quality of water
Unpredictable ocean currents and waving
patterns as well as red tide, coral bleaching,
fish kill that tends to decrease fish catch of
the fishermen

If we will not protect

the Mother Nature and
continue to abuse it,
nature will used its
vengeance through the use
of water which would cost
disaster, calamity,
starvation and thirst and
even death to mankind.

Humankind

Because of mans
numerous activities that
emit greenhouse gases in
our atmosphere in the form
of Carbon dioxide, methane,
Nitrous Oxide and others

Water pollution comes from

domestic, industrial and
agricultural sewage or waste
goes directly to rivers and sea
without being treated.

Taking into consideration

other states responsibility
for the transboundary harm
caused by greenhouse
emission that industrialized
countries like the Western
have pumped into the air
since the beginning of the
Industrial Revolution

How can we minimize the

effects of Climate Change?

Conserving water
Establishing small water impounding projects to serve as

reservoirs for excess water during the rainy season

Rehabilitation and restoration of irrigation system
Mangrove reforestation
Monitoring and apprehending of illegal fishers
Establishment and management of marine reserves and fish
sanctuaries critical for habited biodiversity and fish breeding
Sewerage system
Even distribution of water
Environmental awareness
Implementation and enforcement of laws
Waste water management
