Objectives
O Provide information about digital tools

and resources to promote student learning

and engagement.
O Assist teachers with implementing new
technologies in the classroom that can be
used in content areas.
O Give teachers examples of digital tools
and resources to use for instruction and
assessment.

Describe Yourself!
Answer the following question to describe yourself and your use of
technology in the classroom.

A. You enjoy integrating new tools and

resources in your classroom.

B. You are set in your ways. How I taught it
in the past works, so why change it?
C. You AVOID using technology with your
students at all costs!

Quick Survey
How often do you currently use technology
in your classroom?
A. 1-3 days out of the week
B. Everyday
C. Technology, whats that?

What is It?
Digital Literacy is the
process of teaching and
learning about technology
and the use of technology
(Ribble, 71).
Module 1-Introduction

Why is It Important?

Module 2- Appropriate vs. Inappropriate

Proper Uses
Students are provided

with online classes or

face to face classes.
(Mixture of the two).
Teacher use digital

technologies to create a
class website, where they
can get content even
when they are away from
the classroom.
(Ribble, 938)

Improper Uses
Teachers do not provide

resources where students

can use digital sources
(like blogs, websites,
podcasts, etc.).
Schools and Districts do

not offer online classes or

distance learning, so
students chose alternative
educational experiences.
(Ribble, 938)

Scenari
o #1
Rylee is a junior in high
school and she is getting
easily frustrated in the
classroom. She has
great computer skills
and feels that she can
go get a job based on
skills alone, so she drops
out of school.

o Is this proper or

improper?
o What can the
school district do
differently, if
anything at all?

Scenari
o #2
Andrew is a Sophomore in
high school. He has some
medical issues that keeps
him out of school (so he is
missing a lot of school
work). He talks with his
teachers and counselor
about him falling behind.
They suggest trying this
new online learning
program that their district
created. This will enable
him to work at his own
pace.

o Is this proper or

improper?
o What can the
school district do
differently, if
anything at all?

Quick Survey
Have you used any of the following tools in
your classroom for instructional purposes?
PowToon
Glogster
Padlet
A. Yes
B. No

Types of Technologies
O There are a variety of Web 2.0 tools

that can be used in the classroom for

instructional purposes, but some of my
favorites are PowToon, Glogster, and
Padlet.
O These resources can be used with
upper elementary and older students.
Younger students would need
assistance from an adult.
Module 3-Types of Technologies

This is a tool that can be used to create

visually engaging, captivating, and fun to
make presentations. It is easy to use and
create new animated videos.

Why Glogster?
O Develops

Presentation Skills
O Increase Student
Engagement
O Increase Digital
Literacy Skills
O Encourages
Creativity
