Learning Intentions
I will understand how I can support SAT
preparation within my mathematics course.
I will locate and then explore the SAT
resources within my course(s) Power
Standards.
I will be able to implement and embed SAT
materials within my written and delivered
plans.

WHY? AND HOW?

SAT CONTENT INTO CORE CURRICULUM
WHY? Support all students as they prepare for the math portion
of the SAT with a great emphasis placed on Algebra I, Geometry,
and Algebra II concepts as well as data interpretation from tables
and graphs.
WHY? Provide continual exposure to learning activities and
resources similar to that of the SAT. We students to achieve at all
levels and have meaningful, relevant, and accessible resources.
WHY? Although the SAT is just one component of students overall
graduate profile, we are here to work together to see students
get the very best score possible in order to set the groundwork
for their acceptance into colleges, universities, and/or the
workforce.
HOW? Multiple videos, Do Nows/Warm-ups, and Power Quizzes
have been matched to our Power Standards to both increase
students understanding of the enduring skills needed to be
successful with the content, but also to provide examples to
students as to what they may see on the SAT.
HOW? Links to all support materials will be found in each HS
Math courses Power Standards link on the CIA Headquarters.

MATH CONTENT FOCUS

The math test focuses on three essential
components (categories) of math:

Heart of Algebra
Problem Solving and Data
Analysis
Passport to Advanced Math
While 90% of the questions fall into
these three components, the remaining
10% will be classified as Additional

Topics.

LENGTH OF THE SAT

The redesigned SAT is 3 hours
long plus the optional 50-minute
essay test.
Math will be the third and fourth
sections on the SAT, right after
Reading [Section 1] and Writing
and Language [Section 2].
The Math portion of the SAT is 80
minutes long with a short break
between Section 3 [NoCalculator] and Section 4
[Calculator allowed].

GRID-IN QUESTIONS
22% of the questions on the Math SAT are
student-produced response questions
where students need to solve problems
and then enter their answers on the grids
provided on the answer sheet.

GRID-IN ANSWERS
Mark no more than one circle in any
column.
Only answers marked by filling in the
circle will be scored.
It does not matter in which column you
begin entering your answer; as long as
the responses are recorded within the
grid area, you will receive credit.
The grid only holds 4 decimals places.
The grid can only accommodate
positive numbers and zero.
Unless the problem says otherwise,
answers can be entered on the grid as
a decimal or as a fraction.
Fractions like 6/10 do not need to be
simplified.
All mixed numbers need to be
converted to improper fractions before
being recorded on the grid.
If the answer is a repeating decimal,
students must grid the most accurate
value the grid will accommodate.

While you can only use a calculator on Section 4, you

will have access to the following notes and reference
directions:
Read the notes carefully!

These are the formulas that students

will need for Geometry problems.

SCORING: The redesigned SAT scoring is on a 400 to 1600 scale. There will be
sub-score reporting for every test math, reading, and writing and language
plus additional sub-scores to provide added insight into your test
performance. An example score report is below:

EXPLORE YOUR COURSE SAT RESOURCES

Khan Academy Videos are curated to match SAT content.

SAT Do Nows (Warm-ups) have been created to be implemented once per

week for each nine weeks period. The Do Nows follow concepts that have
been taught during that particular week of the nine weeks or include a spiral
review. All Do Nows consist of one problem with an explanation to follow.

SAT Power Quizzes/Checks should be incorporated at least twice per nine

weeks. Similar to the Do Nows, quizzes/checks follow concepts taught during
the nine weeks and/or incorporate a spiral review.

Go to the CIA HQ and locate your course.

Double click on your courses Power Standards
and then select 2nd Nine Weeks.

Once in your content

areas Power Standards,
scroll down past the red
line to get access to the
SAT resources.
