II. READ THE FOLLOWING PROPERTIES OF MATERIAL

AND COMPLETE examples

A brittle material breaks easily : eg glass,

ceramics, chalk, lamb.
A tough material doesnt breaks easily: eg steel ,
iron ,alumunium , stone.
A hard material is difficult to scratch ; eg glass, iron,
steel, gold.
A soft material is easy to scratch; eg chalk, butter,
cheese.
A flexible material bends easily; eg rubber , plastic,
paper, wire.

Answer the quetion :

A. Why do a glass beaker if you drop it ?
Because the beaker is brittle material.
B. Why doesnt a polythene beaker break ?
Because the polytene is tough material.
C. Why is butter easy to cut?
Because butter is soft material.
D. Why can the diamond cut glass.
Because diamond is hard material.
E. Why do the branches of a tree bend in the wind?
Because a tree bend is flexible.
F. Why dont the walls a house bend in the wind?
Because the walls of a house is reged.
G. Which is more flexible wooden ruler or plastic ruler?
Plastic ruler
H. What are the different properties of green wood (on a tree) and dry
wood?
Green wood is flexible and dry wood is reged.

READ AND COMPLETE THIS:

A. Some materials is has a smooth , they produce little friction when
they are rubbed ; eg ice, slick , floor, moss.
B. Some materials have a rough survace and produce of friction; eg
sandpaper , asphalt.
C. Materials which are soluble in water dissolve easily ; eg salt ,
sugar , chocolate, msg.
D. Materials which are insoluble do not disolve ; eg glass, stone,
diamond, wood.
E. You can see through translucent materials and the light passes
through them ; eg water, glass, transparent plastic.
F. You cannot see through translucent material but the ligh passes; eg
dirty water , juice, sirup.
G. You cannot see through opaque materials and light cannot passes
through them ; eg metel , wall, steel, wood.
H. Combustible maerial burn easily ; eg wood , plastic ,rubber, wood.
I. Noncombustible materials donot burn; eg stone, metal, water, iron.

PROPERTIES

A material which is used for making

clothes must be solid/fluid, brittle/tough,
soft/hard, digid/flexible,smooth/rough,
opaque/transparent, and
soluble/insoluble.

One material with these properties is

wool . others are smooth and flexible.

READ THIS:
A. For the body of a car we need a material
which is solid , hard, tough, and
noncombustible. Eg metal
B. For a window w need material which is
transparent ; eg glass
C. For a chooking pot material which is non
combustible and hard material ; eg cramic
