Task 6 - Pop Music

1. Brief History of the genre

Pop music is the genre of popular music which
originated in the 1950s and deprived from rock and
roll. The term pop music was first coined around the
1920s and meant a piece of music had popular
appeal to it. Pop music often borrows elements from
other styles such as urban, dance, rock and country.
Pop music had been dominated by American and
British music industries and their influence has made
pop music as a whole an international monoculture
even though most regions have their own variation of
pop.

Pop Genre
Ariana Grande- She would
be good on the front cover
as she is a mainstream
artist and is very attractive
and would appeal to the
public as an artist.
Shawn Mendes- Although he is
relatively new to the pop scene,
he is seen as a heartthrob to
some girls and would further
have the girl demographic
interested in the magazine.
Fifth Harmony- These girls have had a
massive success with their song
Work From Home being one of the
most played songs in the Summer
and they are very mainstream in the
pop genre due to this.

Photoshoots

A studio or concert is chosen for the

location for a photoshoot as some artists
love coming to a studio and sing to take
things off their mind and the
environment of instruments and music is
where most artists get their muse to
perform and give the best recording they
can and the concert location is where
the artist or band are more in touch with

Pop Clothing & Makeup

The makeup of the artists on magazine would be
well matched to their skin tone and they would look
glamourous as well as smart and sophisticated
clothing which shows formality as well as giving the
artist a positive representation and a positive
outlook on pop as a genre that is very mainstream
and is in the public eye most of the time.

Pop- Examples
These are good examples for what the pop front
cover could look like as the women look
sophisticated and their makeup is especially done
so they look glamourous as well as presentable for
the shoot and look angelic as they show direct
mode of address which encourages the target
audience to pick up the magazine. This connotes to
the genres drawback of a dominant female
demographic as well as having a lack of males
being willing enough to model and pose for a
magazine.

Pop - Charts
Currently in the charts, the starred songs are examples of pop
songs in the Top 5 in the charts currently and 6 out of 10 are
starred showing how mainstream the pop genre is and how
successful it is as a whole and the songs are to the publics taste as
well as they love what the artists do as a whole.
