Introduction

This experimental activity is major part of this course (LNB 31203).

It will contribute up to 40% of the overall assessment.

Full commitments are requested from all students.

Expected Date : 10 December 2016 (2nd of December)

Time: 8.00am 5.00pm (Departure at 7.00am from UniKL MIMET )

Venue: Offshore Wave Tank, UTP

Participation: 70 Students

Status: Compulsory

Transport: UniKL MIMET Bus

Objective

To equip students with the fundamentals knowledge and understanding of


ship sea keeping and Maneuvering through experimental activities.

Experimental Tasks

Preparation of Experimental Set up & Testing Procedures for

Sea keeping Test

Maneuvering Test

Model Testing (Sea keeping test) :


i.

Motion Analysis for ship with structure floating nearby in several wave conditions.

ii.

Motion Analysis for ship without structure floating nearby in several wave
conditions.

Assessment Methods

Report 1 (30%): Experimental Set up & Procedures (Group report + Group


profile)

Group Presentation (30%)

Model Testing (10%) (i. @ ii.)

Report 2 (30%): Individual Full Report on model testing

Notes:
i.

Students are required to work in teams during lab sessions,

ii.

Students are requested to actively involve during model test and group discussion

iii.

All student must take part and opportunity during group presentation

iv.

All group must submit group profile together with group report

General Instructions

This experimental activity is compulsory for all students

Maximum number of students per group is FOUR (4) persons ONLY.

To conduct group study, discuss and produce group report.

All group discussion and decisions must be properly reported in group minute
meeting. (Group profile)

To prepare materials (in PPT) and make group presentation with all
participations

Every group member is to master a portion and to take turn for the presentation

Assessment will be made based on assessment methods.

Marks will be deducted for late submission

Conclusions

This experimental activity may helps student to increase understanding on


the fundamental knowledge on sea keeping and maneuvering.

This activity may also increase bonding between students by working in team
and improved their communications skills
