POWER LEVER
RIGGING
PROCEDURES

PAGE 1

Note: These procedures are for training purposes only and they are
similar to the procedures put out several years ago by a
technician from Air Tractor in 2008 and even though they were
informative, I found several mistakes in those processes.
These processes that I have here are very much simplified from
the previous procedures and this is the correct procedures from the
way that I was taught and the way that Pratt & Whitney teaches
from the three courses that I have attended. Many of the drawings
that I have included with this presentation are from the training
manual received form those courses. I have rigged several AT802s using these procedures and have never ever run into any
problems. KB5539

1.)Disconnect power lever input cable

at engine cam box assy.

Move power lever in cockpit through full

range from full forward (max. power) to full
aft (max reverse). Verify movement is
without excessive friction or binding.
CAUTION: Do not move power lever into
reverse range with power lever input cable
and reverse linkages connected. Damage will
occur to reverse linkage.

Cambox input
lever

Manually move cambox input lever through

full range of FCU to max RPM stop(104%NG)
and aft to max reverse stop (85% to 92% NG)
to verify any internal FCU friction or
ratcheting action.
Note: any excessive friction or ratcheting
action may indicate FCU failure and reason
for rejection of FCU.

Important: Adjust governor reset linkage to slip fit bolt with governor reset arm and then
adjust aft rod end one half turn shorter (clockwise). This will give positive closing tension
of reset arm against stop and install bolt/nut/spacers and cotter pin. Note: The thick
spacer is positioned between reset arm and rod end. I have seen this cause problems if
not installed in the correct way.
Caution: Verify all linkages are tightened, safety wired and all cotter pins installed. Also
verify witness holes in rod ends and linkages have sufficient thread engagement.

a.) IMPORTANT STEP: Assure that the power lever is at the flight idle
position, condition lever is in the ground idle position for the following
steps.
b.) With the cam follower pin in the tracking point, position and install
the cambox input lever slightly forward towards the front of the engine
(one tooth) from vertical position and tighten bolt. See Photo.
Cambox input lever

c.) With power lever in the cockpit at flight idle position, adjust power
lever input cable rod end to slip fit bolt into the cambox input lever with
cable rod end and tighten bolt/nut.

d.) Cycle power lever in cockpit and verify that cable has sufficient trave
for the FCU arm to reach both max forward NG stop with the power leve
forward and max reverse NG stop with the power lever full aft.

e.) Once again verify that when the power lever in the cockpit is in the
flight idle detent, that the FCU dead-band screw in contacting the cam o
the FCU shaft and at same time the cam follower pin is at the tracking
point of the reversing cam.

Caution: Verify all linkages are tightened,

safety wired and all cotter pins installed.
Also verify witness holes in rod ends and
linkages to indicate sufficient thread
engagement.

1.) Adjust length to slip fit clevis pin through

cable clevis and reversing cam at the middle hole
as shown in photo.
a.) adjusting length can be accomplished in
the same manner as the forward end. There is a
coarse adjustment (see photo) and a fine
adjustment is with the clevis end and jam nut.
b.) When adjusting to fit, maintain slight
forward pressure on the reversing cam and install
clevis pin with slight friction pulling reverse cable
aft (1/32) to give immediate positive action
when power lever is moved into the beta /
reverse range.

length of the terminal connection as required for
alignment. Connect the terminal assembly and tighten
jam nut.
e.) Move the cockpit propeller control lever through the
full range and verify that the governor maximum speed
and feather stops are contacted firmly. There should be a
minimum of 1/8 cushion at the cockpit quadrant when
the stops at the propeller governor are contacted.

MAX RPM
ADJUSTMENT
SCREW

Note: Propeller governor speed select levers on new or

freshly overhauled governors may have to be removed
from the shaft and rotated approximately 180 degrees at
governor installation. The Air Tractor Push-Pull Rod
attaches to the speed select lever on the right side of the
governors installed position as viewed from the cockpit.
f.) Adjust feather stop bolt to have slight amount of play
(1/64) when propeller lever in cockpit is in feather
position.
Post Rigging check
a.) Ensure the propeller feathers when the cockpit
propeller lever is halfway through the feather detent in
cockpit.
b.) Adjust max RPM screw to obtain 1700 max propeller
RPM.
