NARAYANA MURTHY is an indian
IT industrialist and the FOUNDER
of infosys.
At IIM he worked on india s first
time sharing computer system
and designed and implemented a
Basic interpreter for electronic
corporation of india limited.
He started infosys in 1981 and
served as its CEO from 1981 to
2002 and as a chairman from
2002 to 2011
HISTORY
1981- Infosys is established by N. R.
Narayana Murthy and six engineers in
Pune. Signs up its first client, Data Basics
Corporation, in New York.
1983- Relocates corporate headquarters to
Bangalore.
1987- Opens first international office in
Boston, US.
1993- Introduces Employee Stock Options
(ESOP) program
Furthermore
1994 - Moves corporate headquarters to
Electronic City, Bangalore. Opens a
development center at Fremont
1995 - Opens first European office in the UK
and global development centers at Toronto and
Mangalore. Sets up e-Business practice.
1996 - The Infosys Foundation is established.
1998 - Starts Enterprise Solutions practice.
1999 - Infosys becomes the 21st company in
the world to achieve a CMM Level 5 certification

2001 - Infosys is rated as the Best Employer by
Business World
2006 - Employees grow to 50,000+ N. R.
Narayana Murthy retires from the services of
the company on turning 60.
2009 - Infosys selected as a member of The
Global Dow.
2013 - On 1 June 2013, Mr. Narayana
Murthy, one of the founding members of
Infosys and its long time CEO, returned back
from his retirement to assume office in Infosys
as its Executive Chairman
AWARDS
The company was ranked number one among
the best managed companies in Asia Pacific in
the annual Euromoney BestManaged
Companies in Asia survey, 2013.
The company also won the Oracle Excellence
Award for Specialized Partner of the Year
North America in both Financial Management
and Human Capital Management categories, at
Oracle OpenWorld2012.
Infosys Cloud Ecosystem Hub won the 2012
Golden Peacock Award for the most
innovative product/service
