QUESTION 4
How Effective is the combination of
your main product and the ancillary
tasks?
HOW I CREATED BRAND IDENTITY
BETWEEN THE DOCUMENTARY
InADVERT AND
both my advert andARTICLE.
article, I was consistent with the
quote Heres To Denmark Street. I used it in both ancillary
tasks to make the quote seem iconic. By doing this, it gave
both ancillary tasks something in common and link the two
together. Furthermore, constantly seeing the same quote
would intrigue the audience to know why this quote is so
important and common, and question why it keeps being
used. This would lead the audience to go and watch it to find
out what the quote is about.
Furthermore, I decided to incorporate the ancillary advert
picture inside the article. This picture was taken from behind
the scenes of the music groups first video, therefore it is
essentially exclusive pictures. I added that, as the
documentaries purpose was to provide a deeper insight to
the music industry, therefore showing pictures that you
wont see anywhere, allowed this idea to presented. By
having the same picture consistent in both texts shows that
once again, they are linked and reminds the audience of the
other text e.g. if they saw the article then theyll think of the
advert and vice versa.
The opening of article of my article involves a lot of similar
information that the advert includes. Features such as the
same date, same time and sam channel are the same in
both ancillary tasks which shows that they both link
together. If the dates and times were different in the two of
the then it wouldn't give the audience the impression that
the same documentary is being discussed, therefore making
the information in both texts the same shows the they
accompany each other and show that without one another,
they wouldn't be as effective.
Although I didn't mention it much, the Relentless Studio
theme was present all throughout as well. Of course in the
picture in the advert, there is an R that i enhance to be
more obvious are a representation of Relentless, and in
many of the paragraphs in my article, I mention how the
band is there a lot. by having this one key theme through, it
represents that the whole industry, documentary and
ancillary tasks are all connected thpouhgt the Relentless
theme.
HOW MY ADVERT FOR THE
DOCUMENTARY SELLS TO THE
I believe the general quality of my picture is engaging. The visual quality of the picture is aesthetically
pleasing which makes it look much more professional looking. If the quality of the picture was low, it
AUDIENCE
wouldn't make the audience interested in what the rest of the advert consisted of. Therefore the good
quality catches the attention of the audience and makes them ready the of advert.
Another way I think my advert sells to the audience the use of different fonts, sizes and colours for the
important facts and information. For example, I made the actual title of the documentary in a different
size and colour to highlight that this is the main bit of the advert, therefore it attracts the audience to
know what it is. Just below that title, I put the the time and an date of when the it will be aired. I did
this here specifically because it is near the main attraction of the advert, meaning that the audience
will have no choice but to read that bit too as its right beneath it.
My advert also sells to the audience as I put a brief description of what the documentary is about in
the bottom left corner. I did this to give the audience a brief die as to what the documentary is about.
From this description, t allows the audience to make their own judgements as to whether they wan too
watch the documentary or not. If they like the sound of what the description says, then they will be
intrigued to go on to watch it to find out more.
Furthermore, I added a filter to the BBC Four logo to make it much more creative and unique.
Originally, the logo was just simplistic in black and white, however I added a leak filter to it so that it
looks more dynamic and interesting. I did this to reflect the nature of the documentary. Iw anted to
present the individuals in the documentary as talented young men that are different, hence why
making the logo reflects the representation I was trying to make.
Another way I sold my advert to the audience was by presenting an alternative viewing option by
allowing the advert to show that it is available on BBC iPlayer. I idid this as it is becoming more and
more common for viewers to watch things on catch up, or maybe even watch it multiple times.
Therefore, making this option available doesn't restrict the audience to have to watch it at the time
given, and allows them to watch at their own convenience.
HOW MY MAGAZINE ARTICLE SELLS
TO
One wayTHE
I sold myAUDIENCE
article to the audience is the use of an extract from an interview. I
included a large portion of an interview that I had conducted with he band members on
the history of the band, how they formed and why they decided to make music. I
included this as it allowed the audience a sneak preview of further background to the
band, providing more than what the documentary would give the audience. The brief
interview would allow the audience to really understand what the band is all about, and
if they liked the interview, they would go on to read the rest from the link I provided in
order o listen to the whole documentary, and they would also continue on to watch the
documentary so that it would back up the intriguing facts presented.
Another way I sold my article to the audience is the use of pictures to break up the
texts. Quite often, people become disinterested in in magazine articles due tot he fact
that they are not engaging and are too text filled. Based on this idea, I wanted ensure
that there were various elements of my article that allowed the reader to continue
reading. I provided pictures in my article in order to give the text some validity and
allow the audience to visually understand what was being said. I included pictures such
as behind the scenes pictures, and exclusive pictures from live shows of the band
performing. By doing this, it makes the article interactive and engaging.
I general, the interactiveness of the advert is the main way I sold my article to the
audience. Including the website links for the online version of the magazine was a way
to engage the audience as it also provided alternative reading options. Just like on
demand viewing is becoming more popular, online reading is becoming more popular
as well, meaning that it allows the article to be more accessible. Furthermore, if
audiences enjoy this article, it was would allow them to go onto the website and read
more articles similar to this.
ELEMENTS THAT COMMUNICATE THE GENRE
AND STYLE OF MY DOCUMENTARY
In the second paragraph of my magazine article, I spoke about how the
music genre grime is becoming increasing popular. In this, I mentioned a
variety of musicians in the grim category, including Stormzy and Krept and
Konan, and those who were to read this article would assume that these
people are associated with music. Seeing this would communicate the music
documentary genre as it includes similar artists and it is conventional for
music documentaries to mention influences and motivations.
Additionally, the wording of my article is very informal. I didn't want to use
perfect form/grammar as I wanted to represent the article as child and
relaxed. The informality of the article was used to ultimately reflect the
spontaneity of the documentary and present the idea of it being dynamic
and creative.
In my research and planning, I often aid that I wanted to represent the other
creative people, not just musicians. I wanted to explore the lives of other
photographers, artists, dances etc, therefore I purposefully made sure that
the photo taken in my ancillary advert was of high quality. This was done to
represent the other artistic side of my documentary and explore the variety
of different talents I want to connote through my documentary.
