Questions:

1. The correlation is strong between a countrys Gross Domestic Product and the rate of
homicides using a firearm. This may be heavily influenced by the USAs total or
perhaps the wealthier countries purchase and own more guns.

2. -0.351401634, this correlation does a near 180 without the USA which shows now that
the there is a weak negative correlation meaning that the wealthier nations are less
likely to have a high firearms homicide rate.

2. Without the United States the correlation is -.120491857, which still indicates there is

The strongest correlation is .797 between the rate of firearm homicides in a country and the rate of firearms
in a country. It was not the highest score but it did not change completely when the U.S was removed from
the database.

2. What was the effect of removing the United States from the correlations?

Removing the U.S from the correlations greatly impacted it because the change caused shifts of the
direction of the correlation. The size of the full population and economy meant that it heavily influenced
the information.

REFLECTION Questions
1. What do you think would happen to the correlations if countries with a lower Human Development
Index were indeed in the study? Why?

The correlations would most likely disappear because gun related violence is more widely spread in those
countries that often have unrest.

2. How could this data be used in a Public Service Announcement? Which piece of data do you think is
most important?

To bring awareness of the violence of firearms and the effect they have on people.
