PHYLUM ARTHROPODA

BUTTERFLY MILLIIPEDE

CRAB

SPIDER CENTIPEDE
ARTHROPODS
have an exoskeleton - made of chitin and varies from
thin and flexible to thick and hard exoskeleton.

Molting - animals grow a new skeleton many times in

their life to give way to growth, specifically, increase in
size through this process.

Appendages - used for avoiding predators, getting

foods, walking or swimming.
CRUSTACEANS
Group of arthropods which includes water fleas, crabs,
shrimps, lobsters and barnacles.

they have hard exoskeleton

have mandible to bite and grind food.
All crustaceans live in water EXCEPT pill bug.
Aquatic crustaceans have gills for breathing.

Ex: crabs, shrimps, lobsters and barnacles.

ARACHNIDS
They two body section, most with 4 pairs of legs and
mouthparts called chelirae and pelipads.
They use book lungs to respire.

Mites & Ticks - parasitic arachnids. They caused itching

to some mammals, including humans.
Scorpions - have a poisonuos sting.
Horseshoe Crab - the oldest living arthropod.

EX: spider, scorpions

Millipedes & Centipede
relative of insects have long, wormlike segmented bodies.
they have a pair of antenna and each segment bear a
pair of two legs.
they live in the soil, uner the rocks or rotting logs and
leaves.

Millipedes - have 2 pairs of legs per segment and roll up

when disturbed.
Centipedes - have a pair of legs in a segment.
Ex: centipedes & millipede
Insects
they have 3 body sections, 3 pairs of legs, a pair of
antenna and 1-2pairs of wings.
Insects are more adepted for flying and have tracheal
tubes for respiration.

Ex: Dragonflies, grasshoppers, aphids and butterflies.
