A QUESTION OF DOWRY
Dowry system was
originated in upper caste families as a wedding gift. QUESTION OF DOWRY
Thiruchelvams mother asks twenty-
thousand dollars as a dowry which really puts Mr Ramachandran in surprise. Mr Ramachandran tells his wife that they could not able to fulfil the dowry request and also the necklace. Thiruchelvaam rejects the marriage because the Sivasothies family fails to settle the dowry as promised before. QUESTION OF DOWRY Dowry makes things worst for poor families like Mr Ramachadran family to arrange a marriage for their daughter. Some unfortunate parents have desire to provide better life for their daughters, so they are willing to pay a very high dowry. This is looked as an advantage for Thiruchelvams family to earn more in the form of dowry although they do not need it. Conclusion Few similarities can be identified from both stories in the aspect of cultural criticism. Some parts of our culture need to be fixed. We should provide better lifestyle rather for younger generation rather than following old traditions blindly. We should voice out and act bravely if the some norms of culture give us a bad treatment, for example dowry system. Than k You
