CENTRAL NERVOUS SYSTEM

BRAIN
Is the master of the body. It is the coordinator and the deristor of conscious
and unconscious activities.

Composition of the brain

Brain consist mainly of neurons or nerve cell, glial cells or supporting cell, and
blood vessels.

Division of the brain

Message to the brain all pass through the brain stem. From here, they go to a
different parts of the brain.

Forbrain
Includes the cerebrum and diencephalon, while lie toward the top and front of
the skull.
3 main parts of Diencephalon
Hypothalamus
Which controls temperature, hunger and thirst controls the pituitary
gland, and seat of emotions, such as fear and anger.

Subthalamus
Contains many finger and plays an important role in coordinating
movements;
Thalamus
Is distributing center that relays sensory impulse to the surface of the
cerebrum.

ON
All living things respond to environment stimuli. Plants also respond to
stimuli with help of chemical compounds secreted by the cells. Plants
being living organism, exhibit some movements.

Types of movements
The movements of plant during its growth can be directional or non-
directional
Directional movements: These are also called as trophic
movements. Trophic movements are the movements which occur in
the direction of the stimulus.

Positive Phototropism- is seen in shoots which respond by bending

towards light. Negative geotropism is seen in shoots by growing away
from the ground.
Roots bend away from light exhibiting negative phototropism. They
grow towards the ground exhibiting positive geotropism.

Thigmotropism- is the directional growth of plant part in response to

touch of the stimulus object

Hydrotropism - is growth response in which the direction is

determined by the stimuli of water.

Chemotropism is growth movement of plant part in response to

chemical stimulus.
Non-directional movements: These are also called as nastic
responses. These are exactly the movement of plant parts.
These movements are independent of growth.
Plant cells must change their shape for this movement to happen.
These movement in plants occurs in the direction opposite to the
stimulus.

Plant hormone.
Plants have various hormones, which help to coordinate growth,
development and response to the environment. Hormones are the
chemical compounds released by stimulated cells. Different hormones
secreted by the plant are auxins, gibberellins, abscisic acid.

Auxins
Are the hormones synthesized at the tip of the stem. These help the
plant in growth by the cell elongation.
